To put bait inside a crab pot in Stardew Valley, you will first need to craft a crab pot and then place it inside the water; after this, you can then put bait inside by right-clicking on it. Once set in the water with some bait, your crab pot will potentially catch something interesting when you return the next day. However, if you don't have a crab pot yet in Stardew valley, here's how to get one.

In short, if you want a crab pot, you will have to level up fishing to level three; after this, you can then buy at the fish shop for 1500k and craft them with the items listed below.

  • Forty wood
  • Three iron bars

If you have the trapper fishing profession, you can craft crab pots with the items listed below. 

  • twenty-five wood
  • Two copper bars

That said, once you get a crab pot place, you will be able to catch a wide variety of sea creatures and items needed for crafting recipes. As a side note, if you place a crab pot in specific locations, you will get a higher chance to catch particular sea creatures.
