The fastest way to obtain gems in Anime Showdown is to find an AFK World and travel there to farm gems, passive EXP, and Coins. To do that, follow these steps:

• Once you spawn on the server, go down the main street and turn right when you arrive at the T-junction
• Look for the Daily Quests board. You should find an NPC displayed in the image above
• Interact with an NPC named AFK World to access the AFK World.

You can stay as long as you like in AFK World or until the session expires. I like leaving my session on when I go to bed, and when I wake up in the morning, I come back to my PC to check how many gems I collected during my productive bedtime period!
