How to use artillery in Hell Let Loose – Artillery Calculator

Covering fire!

I used artillery guns to decimate enemy troops and vehicles and give my army a huge advantage in Hell Let Loose, but I needed to learn how to man an artillery gun in order to use it. Here's how to use artillery in Hell Let Loose and bombard with ease!

Tips on using artillery in Hell Let Loose

These tips will help you become an expert gunner in Hell Let Loose, but tips alone won't mean anything if you don't put in the work. After a few hours of practice, you'll be able to take out tanks and rescue your pinned comrades like a true gunnery sergeant.

Play Officer in Recon

To get the most out of the artillery, join a Recon squad and play as an Officer. Officers can place Observer markers across the map showing the exact traverse and elevation values needed to hit the target. You can set Observer markers by opening the map and holding 1 on the Numpad while left-clicking where you wish to place it. With Observer markers, you won't waste shells and potentially hit your teammates, which can get you kicked if they decide to punish you.

Set elevation

Elevation determines how far your shell will fly, and the angle of the artillery barrel is displayed in mills (milliradians). You'll need to learn the approximate distance to your target to figure out the optimal angle, and you can do so by using the Hell Let Loose Artillery Calculator and setting the exact values of your target.

Use smoke rounds

Smoke rounds seem useless to the inexperienced recruit, but in the hands of a battle-hardened veteran, they become essential tools. You can use smoke rounds to provide cover for pinned soldiers or protect armored vehicles from anti-tank units. You can also communicate with your teammates and use smoke screens to mark the area you're about to bombard so they can move outside of the firing zone.

Spread out your shots

Don't just continuously shell a single spot on the map since enemies will quickly figure out which area to avoid. Wait a few seconds after each shot and move the barrel to the left or right ever so slightly using A and D keys (Left analog stick on PS5 & Xbox Series X|S), so that you can cover more area with your shots. Changing your target will trick the enemy into thinking they're safe to exit out of their cover, and once they're out in the open, you can give them hell.

Check the map

The map provides critical info to the gunner since it lets you know which areas are populated with friendly troops so that you can avoid friendly fire. You can also use it for reference points when you're firing a barrage of shells to know which areas you've already bombarded.

Find a loader

If you want something done, you have to do it yourself... except when you're a gunner. You can switch between two positions on the artillery gun and be a loader and a gunner simultaneously, but it's so much easier to have a loader keep reloading your gun while you keep pounding enemy positions.

Find a guard

A loader can also work as your guard, but it's best if you find someone to guard the artillery positions in case of an attack. Your vision is impaired when you're a gunner or a loader, so it's recommended you get a teammate or two to watch your back (literally).

Pay attention to Command Chat

This advice works for all roles in Hell Let Loose, but it mostly pertains to artillery gunners since they can get the most out of the Command Chat. You can learn everything you need to know about the battlefield by looking at the Command Chat, from planned squad maneuvers and intel about the enemy's position to learning about your teammates' position and which areas you should avoid shelling.
