How to defend your base against raids in Palworld

It's not easy to defend your base against raids in Palworld. All of those exploding Tocotocos have damaged so many of my walls. However, there are ways to increase your chances of winning raids and keep your base safe as long as possible.

Surround your Base with Traps

Once you've reached Level 4 of the Technology Tree, you'll unlock Hanging Traps which you can place around your base as an extra layer of protection. At Levels 10 and 22 you'll gain access to Small and Large Bear Traps respectively to further reinforce your defenses.

Of course, you can also unlock items such as the Mounted Machine Gun at Level 40, allowing your Pals to shoot at your enemies alongside you.

Craft Alarm Bell

For a single Technology Point, you can craft an Alarm Bell and ring it during raids to make the Pals switch from working to attacking enemies. To craft an Alarm Bell in the Tier 4 Technology tree, you'll need 20 Stone and five Paldium fragments. Placing it in your base will stop the enemy from taking you by surprise.

Return to Title and then Return to your World

If the raid is too much for you to handle, use this trick to save your base from certain destruction:

  • Pause the game and press Return to Title.
  • At the menu screen, press Start Game and go back to your world.

Once your world loads, the raid will have stopped, and your base will be safe again. Pals might behave a bit strangely after you use this trick, but it's better than being obliterated and having to start over.

Swap Base Pals with Party Pals

If you have low-level Pals working in your base, swap them out for your leveled-up Pals in your party. That way, you can keep the worker Pals from being destroyed, while your brawlers can fight back. You can also boost your Pal's EXP with Training Manuals, ensuring that even your base Pals can push back.

Disable Raids

At the end of the day, gaming is all about having fun: if you find Raids tedious and miserable, go to World Settings and toggle Raids off. That way, you'll keep your base prospering and you'll be able to play at your own pace and without stress.

How to protect your base from a Pal Raid in Palworld

While the attacks from the outside on your base are random, you're the one that's summoning a Pal for a Pal Raid. In order to start a Pal Raid, you'll first need to craft a Summoning Altar. The issue with this is that the Summoning Altar has to be in your base and Raid Pals will destroy it as if it's made of cardboard. So how do you protect your base from a Pal Raid in Palworld?

Craft the Summoning Altar in your Secondary base

Usually, you'll have two bases, your primary one where you will create your home, and your secondary one, usually for ore farming. You should be placing the Altar at whichever base you use the least and whichever one you won't mind getting the most damage.

Clear out the base

You might think that building stone walls and defenses will help you protect your items from the Raid Pal. Sadly, they will cut through stone like a knife through butter. These are extremely powerful Pals and you'll be struggling to stay alive and keep your Palbox from getting destroyed.

I suggest clearing out all items, ore, equipment and anything else you don't want destroyed and moving it to your first base. I would also chop down all trees and mine all the rocks and ore in the area. These will be getting destroyed as well so you might stumble across a bunch of stones. If you go over the weight limit, it will slow you down, and you'll be an even easier target.

Increase the number of Pals at a Base

If you are struggling to complete a Raid quickly and defend your base, then you need to increase the limit on how many worker Pals can be at the Base. You can do this in world settings before you enter a world.

  • Palworld change world settings button
  • Palworld world custom settings
  • Max Pals at base setting in Palworld
  • Click on your world.
  • Go to Change World Settings
  • Click on Custom Settings
  • Scroll all the way down until you reach Max Pals Working at Base setting and move it up to 20.

Put your strongest Pals in your base

Add whichever Pals are the strongest to your base. Once you have them all at base and ready to protect it, you can add the following five strongest to your party. This way you ensure that your strongest hitters are all attacking as soon as possible, and you can switch out the party Pals as needed.

Craft a Rocket Launcher

At the end of the day, offense is the best defense. If you take out the Raid Pal as soon as possible, it won't be able to cause as much damage. A Rocket Launcher is unlocked at level 49 of the Technology Tree. To craft it, you'll need:

You'll also need a lot of Pal Metal Ingot for Rockets, so make sure to farm this material before you summon a Raid Pal.
