Using stealth is a fun way to plan attacks in the sci-fi action RPG Starfield. If this is your preferred way to play, but you’re coming up against technical issues advancing the skill, read on to find out how to fix Starfield Sneak Attack not counting.
Starfield Sneak Attack Not Counting - How to fix
Many players have been noticing that when they try to launch a devastating sneak attack in Starifield, it doesn’t seem to be counting towards skill progress. I’ve put together a list of things to try that will get you right back on the sneaky track that will have you leveling your Stealth again.

- Are you hidden?: If the stealth meter reads ‘caution’, sneak attacks won’t count. You need to make sure you’re ‘hidden’ for them to definitely count.
- Chameleon gear: One issue seems to be with any gear that has the Chameleon property. Removing any Chameleon gear has fixed the issue for a lot of players. For some reason, the Chameleon gear seems to stop Sneak Attacks counting towards Sneak Attacks completed on the skill tree.
- Try attacking alone: Another trick that has seen Sneak Attacks counting is flying solo. Leaving your companion behind has seen some players have attacks count towards the skill requirement when they hadn’t previously.
- Try attacking from long range: Some players report that sneak attacking at long range works for them, while melee Sneak Attacks don’t.
- Full restart: If you don’t use Chameleon gear, sometimes switching it off and on again does work. Shut down the game and the machine you’re playing on, and go for a full reboot. Load up the game again and it should fix the issue.
Hopefully one of these tweaks will solve your problem. If not, the game is still being regularly patched, so hopefully the issue will be picked up in the back end soon.Â
