This error occurs due to a general networking issue, as described by Bungie. However, this may lead you to believe that the error is on your end, which is hardly ever the case.

Destiny 2 is a fully online game, and the internet can sometimes be unreliable, considering Destiny 2's shaky track record with stability. Before attempting to resolve the bat error, I highly recommend checking the Destiny 2 server status page as there may be a planned or unplanned outage.
