XDefiant net code issues appear worse than ever after latest patch

Popular free-to-play shooter XDefiant released a patch over the weekend that addressed weapon progression issues and missing kill confirmation sounds, as well as finally bringing in a classic Team Deathmatch mode. But the game's notoriously poor hit registration and net code issues persist.

Developer Ubisoft announced that leveling up primary weapons in XDefiant will be twice as fast now, taking only 1500XP. The same goes for secondary weapons, which will require 500XP before you hear that familiar level-up ding.

The all-time classic Team Deathmatch mode also arrived to the shooter over the weekend after much anticipation. Though the game is only a month old, fans have already been vocal about what new guns and modes they would like to see added to the game down the line. So the arrival of TDM is sure to please many hardcore FPS fans who plan to invest a lot of time in Ubisoft's latest title.

XDefiant net code and hit reg issues persist and seem to be worse than ever

But easily the biggest problem plaguing the game for the last month has been its shoddy net code, leading to poor or downright incorrect hit registration. This has naturally led to severe frustration among the player base who have come to expect much better out of a AAA competitive online shooter.

I seem to be one of the lucky few who has been blessed not to experience such glaring net code issues, though there have certainly been instances where I've had to do a double take and wonder what on earth just happened during a firefight.

These moments haven't been common enough to ruin the entire experience for me, though there is certainly a lack of overall responsiveness in the game that makes me wish for a kill cam feature so that I can make sure I'm not going crazy. There's still a slight but perceptible disconnect between my in-game actions and their effects on the in-game world that is simply not present in other competitors like Apex Legends or The Finals.

And with such egregious examples of broken hit registration as in the example above, it's hard to argue with the XDefiant community's grievances – even if my experience hasn't been so bad. While it seems like the developers are still earning enough goodwill from the community when it comes to new content and weapon progression balancing, Ubisoft needs to get this net code fixed as soon as possible before players start to leave in droves.
