Starfield Shattered Space DLC has a release date

Among the dozens of game trailers shown at Gamescom 2024, a new one courtesy of Bethesda entered the atmosphere, showing the latest upcoming content for intergalactic RPG Starfield. Along with a free update that introduces the long-awaited REV-8 land vehicle, the game's first story DLC Shattered Space now has a solid release date of September 30, 2024.

Shattered Space will take space adventurers to the eerie, distant home planet of House Va'ruun, a cult-like religious faction largely ostracized by the Settled Systems that up to now has only teased their backstory through enemy encounters, sidequests, and salvageable lore. Its members are fiercely loyal to an entity known as the Great Serpent and seek to eradicate those that don't adhere to their creed.

As noted in an earlier update post on Starfield's Steam page, "When a distress signal originating from a derelict star station leads you on a path to Va’ruun’kai, you’ll begin to uncover the secrets surrounding the followers of the Great Serpent." A trailer released back in June (seen above) also gives an in-depth look at what players can expect from this thrilling new deep-space adventure.

Whether the Shattered Space DLC will have a price tag remains to be seen, but we will update promptly once that is revealed.

Alongside that, a small free update introducing the REV-8 land vehicle is landing tonight, which will allow players to finally traverse planets at a quicker pace instead of just on foot or ship hopping. As hinted at by the Gamescom announcement, you'll be able to bring this vehicle to Va'ruun'kai as well, to help you face up against new otherworldly enemies.

Ironically, this DLC launch comes just over a year after the game's initial debut in September 2023 and will be Starfield's biggest content update yet. This groundbreaking RPG is Bethesda's most ambitious undertaking, and while public opinion on the game and its noticeably slow update schedule has remained largely divided, Starfield is still beloved by many for what it has achieved when it comes to the sci-fi RPG genre. Players want to continue exploring the furthest reaches of the final frontier, so hopefully Bethesda will continue to expand on this incredible IP.
