One of your most important assets in Age of Darkness: Final Stand in your champion. In the early access version, you only have the choice of one hero—Edwin. Leveling up your champion allows them to become a powerful force on the battlefield.
You level up your champion by killing nightmares. You will have to level up if you want to unlock your hero's skills—both passive and active. You can track Edwin's experience underneath his life bar. You can see Edwin's skills below.

Edwin's passive skill will be active at all times and grants a buff to nearby units. So it is always good to let Edwin lead the charge and get into the thick of things. His active abilities are powerful tools that can cut down swarms of enemies quickly. These abilities have a cooldown once used.
Knowing when to use Edwin's abilities is important. A single mistake or mistimed use could spell disaster for your army. Also, keep in mind that while champions are strong as a group of soldiers, they can still go down in a fight.
