The Apex Legends competitive scene is always adapting, growing, and changing. In most seasons, new changes that modify how players earn points in Ranked Leagues go into effect. In Season 12: Defiance, these changes prioritize placement overkills to encourage longed play. This is to balance out the changes from Season 11: Escape that made getting kills a more important part of increasing one’s rank. Let’s take a look at how this balance was made.
Placement RP Increases
Ranked Points (RP) awarded to players in the top 5 squads have been drastically increased.
Placement | RP Awarded | Increase in RP |
5 Squads Left | 45 (formerly 30) | +15 more |
4 Squads Left | 55 (formerly 40) | +15 more |
3 Squads Left | 70 (formerly 40) | +30 more |
2 Squads Left | 95 (formerly 60) | +35 more |
Win/Champion | 125 (formerly 100) | +25 more |

Bonus RP per Kill/Assist Decreased
While the actual value is only changing by one, the bonus points received from kills or assists are essentially being halved in the mid-game. In this nerf, kills from 10 squads left until five squads left will only be worth 11 RP (at the same tier) instead of 12. There is no decrease or increase for kill/assist bonus points in the top 5. Alongside this change, the max Kill Points (RP earned from kills or assists, not placement) has been reduced to 125 (formerly 175). Kill Point adjustment tiers remain unchanged.
