How Crypto’s drone deployment works in Apex Legends Season 12: Defiance

A Crypto buff is finally here.

Crypto for a long time has been the least picked, least liked Apex Legends character in terms of abilities, and for good reason—Crypto has needed a full rework for a long time. Without his drone, he is powerless. Luckily for Crypto players, according to an Apex Legends press panel, Crypto is finally receiving a buff in Season 12: Defiance. That said, it isn’t the full rework many were hoping for. Let’s take a look.

The main buff is applied to Crypto’s Tactical. Priorly, Crypto’s drone (aka Hack) could be summoned in the drone point of view (POV) mode with a click, or placed down statically out of POV mode by holding the Tactical button down. While the presence of two deployment modes isn’t changing, the way they work is.

First of all, the deployment mechanic for in and out of drone POV have switched, meaning players will hold down the tactical button to look through Hack’s POV, while tapping will send the drone out apart from him. This will make throwing out the drone mid-fight a more viable strategy.

In addition to this swap, the drone placement out of POV mode is no longer static but instead will move forward for a little while in the direction Crypto was facing on deployment. This gives Crypto players more strategy to place their drone without needing to enter the POV mode. Once the drone reaches a halt, however, moving it again will only be possible by switching POVs.
