How to Tap Strafe in Apex Legends

Tap strafing for newbies

You can only do this with a mouse and keyboard. Many rumors and people claim players can do it on controllers, but that's untrue. Instead of one button, it consists of air-strafing and bunny hopping in a way that only a mouse and keyboard can achieve.

The game does not advertise tap strafing as an official move. It's more of a technique that players have developed and made their own. In other words, it is a series of movements that you can get used to.

If you want to do it correctly more often, change your keybindings. Add scroll up to Move Forward Key 2. By doing this, you will move forward in the air more often (it will make sense later).

  1.  Decide which way you'll go and hold one of your strafing keys as you slide jump. A will go left, and D will go right.
  2. When you reach the peak of the jump, flick the mouse wheel up repeatedly (super fast) and then focus on where you will turn. You will see the character begin to turn a lot faster than usual.
  3. While holding the strafe button, move the mouse to where you were turning while repeatedly scrolling up. This will turn you 180 degrees if done perfectly.

You can use the tap strafe technique in Apex Legends to make sharper movements and harder turns than normal side-jumping. Try it soon, as this feature will soon disappear.

As of August 31, Respawn announced that the mechanic would be removed from the game in the 10.1 update because it is unfair to those who cannot or do not know how to use it. This resulted in a lot of streamers and players voicing their displeasure. However, the devs decided to postpone the removal of tap-strafing to a later patch as they wanted to make sure the removal was done correctly.
