Best Shadowheart build BG3

Shadowheart build!

Shadowheart is a High Half-Elf Cleric in Baldur's Gate that can be recruited as a companion or played as an origin character. She uses the Trickery Domain, making her a very helpful companion or origin character, as she has access to a range of offensive, healing, and buff/debuff spells.

When first starting out an origin character as Shadowheart, you will be locked into the Trickery Domain subclass, which will give her access to some interesting spells and abilities that round out her kit nicely. If you are choosing her as an origin character, here are the stats and spells you will want for her starting out.

Best Stats and Spells for Shadowheart in Baldur's Gate 3

  • Strength: 10
  • Dexterity: 12
  • Constitution: 16
  • Intelligence: 8
  • Wisdom: 16
  • Charisma: 10

Choosing stats for Shadowheart can be a little difficult, depending on how you want to use her. If you want her to be a light or medium armor-based cleric, this is one of the best builds that focuses on Wisdom. There is also an option for her to get somewhat tanky with heavy armor later on, so if you want to go that route, dumping Dexterity for Strength is a viable option.

The good news about Clerics is you can prepare your spells every long rest, so you don't have to be locked into your spell choices. Clerics also have a pretty extensive list of spells, so make sure you prepare your spells based on what your party needs that day.

Starting out picking spells, you will want to decide if you want Shadowheart to be a healer-focused Cleric or a well-rounded caster. If you want to focus on healing, here are the spells you will want to grab.

Best Healing Spells for Shadowheart in BG3

LevelSpell
CantripsGuidance, Sacred Flame, Resistance
1Bless, Cure Wounds, Healing Word, Guiding Bolt, Shield of Faith
2Lesser Restoration, Aid
3Beacon of Hope, Revivify, Remove Curse

The issue with focusing completely on healing is Shadowheart will miss out on some of the best damage spells like Inflict Wounds and Spirit Guardians. If you want to balance out her spell list, you can take other types of spells too, like Bane at level 1 and Hold Person at level 2; see below for a more versatile spell list.

Best Caster Spells for Shadowheart in BG3

LevelSpell
CantripsGuidance, Sacred Flame, Light
1Bane, Inflict Wounds, Healing Word, Command
2Mirror Image, Spiritual Weapon, Pass Without a Trace
3Spiritual Guardians, Bestow Curse, Fear

A combination of casting and healing can make for a well-rounded Cleric build. Remember, you can prepare spells after every long rest, so try to figure out if the day calls for more utility, support, or combat.

Shadowheart will also get access to Channel Divinity Charges, which allow her to perform special abilities, which for Trickery Domain Clerics can be quite helpful. At level 1, Shadowheart can use Blessing of the Trickster, which can give an ally advantage on Stealth, and at level 2, she can Invoke Duplicity, which will summon an illusion to distract your enemies—you and your allies receive Advantage on Attack Rolls against a creature if both attacker and the illusions are within 3m of it.

Best Feats for Shadowheart in BG3

Shadowheart can benefit from feats unlocked at Cleric Levels 4, 8, and 12. Depending on how you are building Shadowheart, there are a few feats that mesh very well with her abilities. Here are some good feat choices for Shadowheart in BG3.

FeatDescription
LuckyYou gain 3 Luck Points, which you can use to gain Advantage on Attack Rolls, Ability Checks, or Saving Throws, or to make an enemy reroll their Attack Rolls.
ResilientYou increase an Ability by 1, to a maximum of 20, and gain Proficiency in that Ability's Saving Throws.
ToughYour hit point maximum increases by 2 for every level you have gained.
War CasterYou gain Advantage on Saving Throws to maintain Concentration on a spell.
You can also use a reaction to cast Shocking Grasp at a target moving out of melee range.

Clerics can be a very powerful class for all aspects of the game. Shadowheart makes a great one, but if you want to use her as an origin character, you will want a great party around you for support.
