BG3: Should you Side with Spaw or Sovereign Glut in Baldur’s Gate 3?

Who will rule the Circle?

Baldur's Gate 3's narrative is full of choices, many of which can affect the story and outcomes. After deciding to take my chances in the Underdark rather than the mountain, I faced a tough choice between two Myconid Sovereigns, which left me wondering whether I should help Glut start his own Circle by killing Spaw, or upholding my oath with Sovereign Spaw.

Should you Kill Spaw or Glut in Baldur's Gate 3?

You will gain access to the cache behind the Guardian Gate regardless of which option you choose, and both Spaw and Glut carry the same items on their bodies. The only real difference comes in the narrative and by helping Glut, who gives you the Winter's Clutches gloves. Let's look deeper at what the choice between Spaw and Glut does in Baldur's Gate 3.

What Happens if you Side With Sovereign Glut in Baldur's Gate 3?

Siding with Sovereign Glut to create his Circle will have you turn on Spaw. You can kill only Sovereign Spaw to end the battle, but there are many enemies here, and they can overwhelm you if you are not prepared or fail to defeat Spaw quickly. Once you kill Spaw, the remaining Myconids turn peaceful under Glut's control.

Glut will reward you with the Winter's Clutches, and you can still loot Spaw's body and enter the Myconid cache. You will then receive the same quest to eliminate the Drow, Nere, for Glut. Note: Betraying Spaw can break your Paladin oath and turn you into an Oathbreaker.

    • When the wearer deals cold damage, inflict 2 turns of Encrusted with Frost upon the target(s).

What Happens if you Side with Sovereign Spaw in Baldur's Gate 3?

If you do not help Glut, he will immediately become hostile and attack you. He is not that much of a threat; just do not let Glut knock you prone. You can also lead him back to Spaw and turn him in there. After defeating Glut, you can loot his body and return to Sovereign Spaw to claim the rewards in the cache. Spaw will then task you with hunting down Nere and ending the Drow.

  • Scroll of Blur
  • Scroll of Hold Person
