During the final Act 2 mission in Modern Warfare 3 Zombies, you'll be asked to deploy to the Neutralizer Test Site and complete the objectives. Here's a detailed guide on how to complete the Shepherd mission in MWZ.
How to deploy to Neutralizer Test Site in MW3 Zombies (Map)
After about a minute of spawning into the Urzikstan, the exfiltration points will be revealed and marked on your tac map. Open your map and look for the exfil point with a yellow star that says Shepherd (first image). Ignore the evacuation zone that says Extraction as it's for a previous mission from Act 1.
Go to the Shepherd exfil point and call in the helicopter to deploy to the Neutralizer Test Site at a new location. But before that, I suggest you collect some essential equipment for your survival in the huge battle that's about to come. Below are my recommended gear for solo players for the Shepherd mission:
- A level 2 Pack-a-Punched weapon, preferably an AR or LMG, will help you take out the Tier 2 Zombies and bosses easily. If you manage to acquire a Ray Gun, make sure to take it with you.
- Decoy Grenades is the best tactical as it helps you distract Zombies for a short while.
- I prefer the Aether Shroud field upgrade as it recharges fast and turns you invisible momentarily.
- Get at least a Medium Backpack by looting or purchasing one from a buy station for 2000 Essence. It'll help you carry more essential items.
- Equip a 3-Plate Armor Vest from a Mercenary Stronghold for maximum armor capacity.
- At least two or more Self-Revive Kits.
- Consume as many Perk-a-Cola Cans as you can before exfiling, but make sure to acquire Speed Cola, Stamin-Up, and Jugger-Nog. You can also get these for free via some cool Easter Eggs.
I also brought the Juggernaut killstreak to the Neutralizer Test Site and it turned out to be a lifesaver in the end. It's available for purchase from the High Threat Zone buy station for 10,000 Essence. Ultimately, a lot of Essence is required to collect all this gear, so complete a bunch of contracts and start acquiring necessary items one match early. Furthermore, carry some spare Essence (4000 or more) to the Shepherd mission in order to buy two Sentry Guns.
How to complete the Shepherd mission in MW3 Zombies
After your loadout and gear are ready, exfil to the Neutralizer Test Site to begin the Shepherd mission. As you land, your first objective will be to destroy the two SAM Sites on the roof of the building. Take out the Mercenaries in your way and reach the roof using ziplines, but beware of the mines on the ground.
Fight off the AI combatants and plant explosives on the SAM Sites to make them explode. Next up, go to the ACV airdrop nearby and clear the area of any Zombies and Mercenaries. Once the area is secure, I suggest you visit the buy station and purchase two Sentry Guns. Place one of these killstreaks on top of the ACV and then start it to begin the escort objective.
Now all you need to do is stay on top of the ACV to keep it moving while the Sentry Gun takes out the waves of Zombies for you. Keep the hostiles away and don't let them reduce the vehicle's health. Use your weapon to take out the threats near you and the Zombie bosses such as Manglers and Disciples.
While doing so, be mindful of your ammo and try to replenish it from Ammo Caches, but don't ever go near the Zombie horde if you're playing solo. Mercenaries will attack you at the construction site, so deal with them or use Aether Shroud to go invisible for a short while. The Self-Revive Kit comes in handy if you get downed here.
As the ACV reaches the train tracks, it means you're close to your destination. When the vehicle stops at the Aether crystal field, stock up your ammo from the Ammo Cache and put down a Sentry Gun next to the ACV. Also, this is time to throw the Juggernaut killstreak drop marker.
Press the button on the vehicle to start the Neutralizer test process and equip your Juggernaut suit. The test will be over in a short while, but you'll have to defend yourself and the ACV from another wave of Zombies once again. The real troublemaker here will be the Mega Abomination, but instead of worrying about taking it down, try to dodge its attacks and focus on Zombies damaging the ACV.
This is when you should use the Decoy Grenades to distract the undead away from the vehicle and kill any still on it. Soon, you'll be asked to activate the Neutralizer by hitting the button behind the ACV. Use the Aether Shroud and run past the Zombies to activate the device and end the Shepherd mission. Make sure to watch the cutscene before leaving the match so the progress counts.
