MW3 cheating policy: Can you go to jail for cheating in MW3?

Cheating isn't worth it.

Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3's multiplayer is fast, frantic, and frustrating if you find yourself getting killed repeatedly. Some players resort to cheating to combat this and improve their odds of winning, or even use cheats in the Modern Warfare 3 campaign.

Cheating in multiplayer games has been around forever, but many are wondering about a change in how games handle cheating. Players are asking if breaking the Modern Warfare 3 cheating policy will send you to jail.

Will cheating in Modern Warfare 3 send you to jail?

The answer is no; cheating in Modern Warfare 3 will not send you to jail. You may get banned and be left unable to play Modern Warfare 3 or possibly any Call of Duty game. The account used with cheats may also get banned, which could cost you every game in that account's library. However, you will not go to jail for cheating in Modern Warfare 3.

Many players are reacting to this because of a TikTok shared by Tdawgsmitty, but it is just clickbait and trying to stir up controversy. Cheating is a bannable offense, but you will not go to jail for using cheats in Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3. Using cheats will break the Terms of Service but not the law.

However, if you actively create and distribute cheats in Modern Warfare 3, the punishment may be more severe. You likely won't face jail time, but you risk being sued by Activision. In a similar case, Bungie sued a prolific cheat distributor for Destiny 2 and won, forcing the cheat creator to pay a massive legal fee.

That said, cheating is a lame way to play a multiplayer game, so I recommend avoiding using cheats. You can get banned for using cheats, and many players are quick to report cheaters, especially in multiplayer games. It is better to play without cheats and rely on your skills to win in Modern Warfare 3.
