Call of Duty: Vanguard lacks one important feature that would help players identify teammates and enemies. There are no factions in Call of Duty: Vanguard, which means that all operators are available for both teams, but that can get confusing.
If both Modern Warfare and Cold War had factions, why are factions gone in Vanguard? The answer is a bit of a mystery because factions have helped players in the previous CoD games with operators. However, developers may have considered a new feature more important than factions.
One of the new features in Vanguard is Operator XP and favorite weapons. Each operator can earn XP, which will unlock exclusive banners, icons, and skins for that operator. Operators can also earn more XP by using their favorite weapon. For example, players using Polina Petrova will earn extra operator XP by using the 3-Line Rifle.
Since operator XP and favorite weapons are new features, perhaps developers considered having factions restrictive to which operators could be used, especially if players get unlucky with winding up on the same team over and over. However, players have voiced their frustration with the lack of factions.
During the Call of Duty: Vanguard beta, players were reporting that they could not tell enemies and teammates apart due to the operators and their outfits. It would be one thing if many Polinas are running around sniping, but it is another if they are all dressed the same. Players have called for teams to have different outfits, but time will tell if developers make changes based on player feedback.
It does not seem like Vanguard will have factions, but hopefully, Sledgehammer Games will implement team uniforms or team-specific operator skins.
