Note: Minor character spoilers for Guile follow.

Where to find and recruit Guile

Upon reaching Termina (Another World), head up the stairs and speak with the statue cleaner to initiate a short cutscene in which you'll learn of your next destination—Viper Manor. To recruit Guile into your party, first, make your way over to Dario's shrine in eastern Termina to find the ferryman, Korcha. Speak with him and he'll offer to take you to Viper Manor, though he'll need the help of a guide.

Now that transportation has been secured, head into Termina's bar to find Guile standing against the wall in the back. Speak to him to learn of his plans to sneak in Viper Manor, and he'll offer his services as a guide upon learning of Serge's plan to infiltrate the manor as well, unlocking him as a playable character. Keep in mind that recruiting Guile will prevent you from recruiting Nikki or Pierre until New Game+.

Guile's abilities

Guile's innate element is Black, the elemental color closely associated with shadow and space, and his Magic Attack and Magic Defense stats are the second highest among innate Black characters. When using the Wanda In tech, Guile's wand magically vanishes before reappearing within an enemy, dealing massive damage.

On the other hand, Guile's WandaSwords tech sees him encircle an opponent with floating swords before impaling them, dealing a hefty amount of damage in the process. Guile is the strongest magic-oriented character that can be acquired during the beginning of Chrono Cross, and is a viable option for any team. If you're looking for a powerful innate Black character, be sure to recruit Guile while you're in Termina!
