Should you kill Songbird or give her to FIA in Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty?

Warning: Difficult choice ahead!

Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty completes the base game's redemption arc triumphantly as players reach the conclusion of the expansion. After getting captured by the MaxTac forces and thrown into the Cynosure bunker core, Songbird asked me to kill her in a rather heartbreaking scene. I wanted to know the consequences of my choices more than ever before, so I experimented on what would happen in each scenario. With so much riding on that single decision, we will dive deeply into the consequences of killing Songbird instead of giving her back to FIA in this guide.

What happens if you kill or spare Songbird in Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty?

You will be given the choice of killing Songbird or giving her to FIA in Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty if you decide to help Reed capture Songbird during the previous Firestarter quest line. This is the final decision you must make if you take this branch of the path, and no matter what choice you make, the game will still be open for you to play.

If you decide to ignore Songbird's pleas to end her life and decide to spare her in Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty, choose the Spare So Mi | Won't do it dialogue option. It will buy Reed enough time to get to you, saving her life in the end. You will tell her you want to believe you're giving her another` chance, which is also a choice I made on my first playthrough. She will claim you'll be leaving her to a fate worse than death, but it will be for the better.

The next scene takes place in Reed's car, with So Mi lying in the back seat. Reed will seem troubled as he keeps driving in silence. He will confess to you he's troubled by her condition as you eventually arrive at the NUSA checkpoint. After an exchange, you will get out of the vehicle to meet up with Myers, who makes a spectacular entrance with her government EV.

Rosalind Myers will be pleased with your success and do what all politicians do when they're delighted with your service: award you a completely useless (NUSA) medal (which made me laugh out loud). You can accept or refuse; no matter your choice, it won't have any impact. Speak to Reed as the NUSA evac team prepares So Mi for transportation to a treatment facility. He will reminisce about the time when he first recruited her.

Your next meeting with Reed will occur at the Dogtown basketball field where you first met him. He will tell you Matrix didn't take in due to So Mi's extensive nerve damage, but it's being kept for you. Regardless, she will live. After this, you can freely roam the Dogtown and the rest of the Night City.

If you decide to listen to Songbird's final request and end her life in Cyberpunk Phantom Liberty, choose the Kill So Mi | OK, I'll do it. dialogue option. You will pull the main plug from her forehead as she says her sorry. She will expire immediately after, and V will sit on the floor, waiting for Reed to arrive.

During the car riding scene, Reed will be sulking in silence. He will be angry you didn't wait for him before pulling the plug. He will claim he could change her mind when she asked to die. V will try to make him see it was So Mi's choice to make, but he will have none of it.

Rosalind will not be pleased at all for you not bringing back So Mi alive to her. No matter what you say at this point, it will not change her mind, and she will leave being disappointed in you. Eventually, she will tell you she can't deny you tried to help her, and she will give you a very insincere thanks on behalf of NUSA. If you ask her about the help she promised you, she will inform you she owes you nothing because you failed to bring So Mi in alive. The only reward you will get is 5000 eddies if you take this path. After a brief conversation with Reed, you will part ways, and he will walk away into the desert.
