David King is one of Dead by Daylight's many Survivors. This fan-favorite was first introduced in Chapter V: A Lullaby for the Dark in July 2017. On April 27, 2022, developer Behaviour Interactive confirmed that David is the first LGBTQIA2+ character in the game. It was a decision that was made after consulting with the GaymerX organization for some time. In commemoration of the announcement, David King is one of the featured characters in the Devotion Tome.

In David's lore, we discover that he was the only child of a wealthy family. Despite having every advantage in life, David was prone to violence and often went out of his way to find a fight. He eventually found his way into rugby, where his natural athleticism and penchant for getting rough served him well. Things were looking up until he assaulted a referee and earned a lifetime ban. From there, David began frequenting pubs, working as a debt collector, and sparring in the odd fight. His was a turbulent life until the Entity abducted him and turned that turbulence into constant horror.

David comes loaded with three perks, one of which (Dead Hard) has become a go-to in the survivor meta.

  • Dead Hard: When injured, tap into your adrenaline bank and dash forward quickly to avoid damage. Press the active ability button while running to dash forward. Avoid any damage during the dash. Dead Hard causes the Exhausted status effect.
  • We're Gonna Live Forever: When healing a dying Survivor, your healing speed is increased. You get a token whenever you perform altruistic actions. Each token grants bonus blood points.
  • No Mither: You suffer from the Broken status effect for the entire trial, but you do not leave pools of blood, your grunts of pain are reduced, your recovery speed is increased, and you can fully recover from the dying state.
