How to change your Sparrow’s speed in Destiny 2

I live my life a quarter mile at a time.

There's nothing quite like hopping on your Sparrow and blazing across the wastelands of the Cosmodrome in Destiny 2. Season of the Wish has brought about the option to enhance that feeling with the ability to change your Sparrow's speed.

So, strap on your racing leathers, crank up the speed metal, and make a quote about family; we're going to race some Eliksni for pink slips.

How to activate the Sparrow speed boost in Destiny 2

To change your Sparrow's speed, you'll need to go into the Sparrow item itself within your inventory. There will be two options in the first column: Custom Drive and Tuned Drive. The Custom Drive option provides all the perks and benefits of the fabled Always on Time Sparrow; the Tuned Drive option is the original setting for the Sparrow.

The change comes after a lot of complaints from the community regarding the inequality of Sparrow performance. All Sparrows were, for the most part, created equally, except for Always on Time. This Exotic Sparrow dropped from the Scourge of the Past Raid. Like many things from that era, the Raid was put into the Destiny Content Vault, thus locking out players who had never obtained it.

Despite not having SRL in Destiny 2, the additional speed is a welcome addition, especially for speed-intense sections like Deep Stone Crypt and Grasp of Avarice. Just make sure to take your suped-up Sparrow for a test run first as it can take a little getting used to.

  • Custom Drive - 190 Speed
    • An expertly tuned NLS drive, providing the best possible performance.
  • Tuned Drive - 160 Speed
    • An improved propulsion unit that has received some specialist tuning.
