How to get the Dead Messenger Grenade Launcher in Destiny 2

One of The Witch Queen's earliest challenges comes in a mission for a new exotic.

The Dead Messenger grenade launcher is part of Season of the Risen which was released alongside The Witch Queen. It is obtained when players complete the Kill the Messenger quest, which requires completing the Vox Obscura Mission on Savathun's Throne World.

To progress into Season of the Risen, players must complete the first mission of The Witch Queen called The Arrival. From there, they will need to accept and complete the first week's mission, Operation Elbrius. Vox Obscura recommends a Power Level of 1550, but a well-coordinated fireteam can tackle it around Power Level 1520.

Dead Messenger, unlike previous Seasonal exotics, doesn't come with random rolls. The intrinsic trait is Trinary Vision which releases a fan of three energy waves when projectiles make contact with the ground. Dead Messenger also includes the following perks:

  • Quick Launch - Greatly increases handling speed, increases projectile speed
  • High-Velocity Rounds - Increases projectile speed, increases reload speed
  • The Fundamentals - Press the reload button to change this weapon's damage type, cycling between Solar, Arc, and Void
  • Short-Action Stock - Greatly increases handling speed
