Diablo IV is the newest entry in the Diablo series. Players return to Sanctuary to find it overrun with demons and must defeat Lillith, the one responsible for this new Sanctuary. With Diablo having a detailed world and lore, many fans have been wondering when Diablo IV will take place in the Diablo timeline.
Where does Diablo IV take place in the timeline?
Diablo IV is a sequel to Diablo III, taking place decades after the events of Reaper of Souls. Sanctuary's population has been vastly decimated, and Lillith, the daughter of Mephisto, has returned to rule over what remains of humanity. To make matters worse, Heaven has shut its gates, leaving the world of Sanctuary on its own against the forces of Hell.
Players will chase Lillith across Sanctuary, looking to stop her nefarious plans. However, the former archangel and now rogue angel, Inarius, also appears in Diablo IV's story. We do not know yet what the full story of Diablo IV entails, but the conflict between Inarius and Lillith is at the forefront.
Diablo IV promises a new story and a new Sanctuary to explore. The effects of the previous games can be felt everywhere, including the new and returning zones. New features, such as the open world and more, are also added to the next Diablo entry.
