How to farm Murmuring Obols in Diablo 4

As long as they're not screaming and summoning the Eclipse, you'll be fine!

Diablo 4 features an expansive world for players to discover, fighting off hordes of Lilith while leveling up and expanding their arsenal with weapons and other mystical items. To do that, we have been given various resources besides the standard Gold. While doing random side quests in the game, I found Murmuring Obols, a curious and rare resource. It's a precious asset with a characteristic use in Diablo 4, and this guide will explain in detail why you need Murmuring Obols and how to get it.

What is Murmuring Obols in Diablo 4

Murmuring Obols is a trading currency in Diablo 4, which you can only use to purchase goods at the Purveyor of Curiosities. It is a specific kind of merchant that reminded me of a child in Old Tristram called Wirt, who used to sell a mystery item, but I had to pay 50 gold pieces to see what item he was selling before making a purchase. Purveyor of Curiosities works similarly, offering mystery items of unknown stats, which you can see only after purchasing by paying the asked amount of Murmuring Obols. Here is a list of items you can purchase using Murmuring Obols:

  • Amulet: 60 Murmuring Obols
  • Axe (One-Handed): 50 Murmuring Obols
  • Axe (Two-Handed): 75 Murmuring Obols
  • Boots: 25 Murmuring Obols
  • Bow: 75 Murmuring Obols
  • Cap: 40 Murmuring Obols
  • Crossbow: 75 Murmuring Obols
  • Dagger: 50 Murmuring Obols
  • Focus: 40 Murmuring Obols
  • Gloves: 25 Murmuring Obols
  • Hammer: 75 Murmuring Obols
  • Mace: 50 Murmuring Obols
  • Pants: 40 Murmuring Obols
  • Polearm: 75 Murmuring Obols
  • Ring: 40 Murmuring Obols
  • Staff: 75 Murmuring Obols
  • Sword (One-Handed): 50 Murmuring Obols
  • Sword (Two-Handed): 75 Murmuring Obols
  • Tunic: 40 Murmuring Obols
  • Wand: 50 Murmuring Obols

You can also spend 20 Murmuring Obols to purchase Whispering Keys for opening Silent Chests, which are mystery crates that appear almost anywhere, showing up for a limited time on a player's minimap. They have random spawn times and completely random loot drops, regardless of which World Tier you play. I can't recommend spending Murmuring Obols to purchase Whispering Keys because I don't think they're worth it due to their random nature, but you can still go for it if you feel lucky.

How to get Murmuring Obols in Diablo 4

To obtain Murmuring Obols in Diablo 4, you must complete the following events:

  • World Quests
  • Dungeon Quests
  • Side Quests

The quickest way to obtain Murmuring Obols is by doing random Side Quests that pop up in the world. You will see them frequently as they are outlined with a golden border marking the Side Quest zone. If you complete the main and side objectives during the Quest, you will receive 35 Murmuring Obols. The maximum number of Murmuring Obols you can carry will be 500 at the beginning. Still, you can obtain more by discovering the Altars of Lilith and increasing your Renown with each Sanctuary region.
