Where to get Coiling Wards in Diablo 4

Coiling Wards are obtained by breaking down Legendary items in Diablo 4, but you'll notice that not every piece of gear you salvage will give you the material. Blizzard hasn't said anything official about it, but it looks like you'll only be getting Coiling Wards from Legendary items over 400 item level. There have been players reporting that to be the case, so if breaking down early Legendary items isn't working for you, that might be the reason why.

The in-game tool tip tells you Coiling Wards are obtainable by salvaging Legendary items, so it's obvious they could be clearer with the wording. Nevertheless, Coiling Wards appear to be much easier to obtain in endgame when you'll be getting higher item level pieces, so you shouldn't really worry a lot of stocking up on them through the leveling process.

What are Coiling Wards for in Diablo 4?

Like Forgotten Souls, the Coiling Wards are needed to upgrade gear later on in the game, so you'll be needing a lot of them. Unlike the Forgotten Souls which are obtained from Helltide events, you can get Coiling Wards much faster and easier.

There will eventually be a materials bottleneck in your Diablo 4 playthrough, and that's where you'll have to do a bit of grinding to continue maximizing your build. This is par for the course for a Diablo game, so it shouldn't catch many players by surprise. What can be frustrating is the low drop rates for the materials, so keep your fingers crossed and hope for the best.
