How Does the Vampiric Curse Work in Diablo 4

The Vampiric Curse in Diablo 4's Season of Blood is a unique mechanic that allows you to inflict a curse on enemies using Vampire Powers, which, upon their defeat, enables soul extraction for offensive capabilities. You can store up to eight charges before use. It works in two stages:

  • Stage 1: Infection and Soul Extraction
    • Utilize specific Vampiric Powers to inflict the Vampiric Curse on foes. When these cursed enemies are defeated, their souls are stored, ready for release.
  • Stage 2: Releasing the Souls
    • At this stage, release the accumulated souls by employing an Agility, Defensive, or Macabre skill. These souls target and damage enemies and can carry up to 8 souls simultaneously.

As of patch 1.3.3, Vampire Powers have received a significant buff, so now is a good time to try them out as any. I expected the meta shift to happen a bit sooner, since after all, it is called Season of Blood.

Using Vampiric Powers to Inflict the Curse in Diablo 4

Several Vampiric Powers can impose the Vampiric Curse in Diablo 4, each offering unique effects that cater to different playstyles and strategies.

  • Coven's Fangs: Increases damage against crowd-controlled enemies and has a chance to inflict the curse, enhancing minions' effectiveness.
  • Prey on the Weak: Enhances damage against vulnerable enemies, making it potent for consistent curse application.
  • Accursed Touch: Offers a chance to spread the curse to nearby enemies, amplifying soul extraction potential.
  • Flowing Veins: Boosts damage over time against cursed or moving enemies, ideal for DOT-focused builds.
  • Metamorphosis: Transforms evasion into an offensive maneuver, inflicting the curse while dealing damage as a cloud of bats.

To unlock Vampire Powers, you need to complete your Diablo 4 seasonal quests until they're unlocked. Once you unlock them, you can locate them in your inventory by clicking an icon left of the equipment section. Doing so will open the Vampire Powers tab, which has five slots where you can select your Vampire abilities.
