Trading is a staple mechanic in just about all ARPGs, and for Diablo 4, this is no exception. Due to some unfortunate circumstances, however, Blizzard has disabled this important mechanic for all players.
With Season of Blood underway, being able to trade amongst others is important for gearing up to some degree. For the time being, we all have to fend for ourselves until Blizzard decides to spin up their hamsters on the trading mechanic.
Why is trading turned off in Diablo 4?
According to Blizzard, a bad duplication bug has taken hold of Diablo 4, and Trading is the epicenter of it. No doubt there have been players taking advantage of this bug, whatever it may be. It remains to be seen if dispensary action will be taken against such players, but I doubt it overall. Since Diablo 4 doesn't really have a central economy, item duplication isn't as damaging as it normally would be.
Also, since seasons only last a few months, at best, the duplication's effects will linger until the end of the Season of Blood.
As of the time of this update, Trading in Diablo 4 has been re-enabled. Blizzard periodically turns off Trading when bad item or duplication bugs pop up in between major updates. Big updates mean lots of potential problems, so don't hold it against them too much. If trading gets disabled again, check back here for the latest updates on the Trading status.
