Between Skull Rock and a Hard Place quest guide Disney Dreamlight Valley

Time to put these Pillars to use!

The story of The Forgetting and The Remembering may be officially ended, but that doesn't mean life around the Valley is over. After completing the Dark Castle quest, The Forgotten will give you the Orb of Remembrance. This will allow you to complete the quest Between Skull Rock and a Hard Place, where that mysterious extra Pillar lies. If you're like me, you might be a little confused about where to begin, but thankfully, you can speak to Merlin for a little hint, and we have a step-by-step walkthrough to help you get there as well!

Once you have the Orb of Remembrance from The Forgotten, head to The Forgotten Lands. Here you can interact with the Pillar and place. This will cure the Dream Castle of all the Night Thorns around it. Now you can return to Merlin and speak to him about it. This will end the Odds and Ends quest. However, you'll notice the Between Skull Rock and Hard Place quest hasn't started, and that's because we need to restore the Pillar on Skull Rock island in Dazzle Beach.

To collect the Orb for Skull Rock Island, you will head back into the Dark Castle using the portal you used at the Plaza. Next to the first door in the Castle, there is a little teleport square. Step on this, and it will lead you to where the Orb is hidden. Ta-da! You now have the Orb of Unity to restore the Pillar on the Island. Now you can exit the Dark Castle and head to Skull Rock Island to place the Orb of Unity into the Pillar, which will officially initiate the start of the quest.

You'll notice, now that Orb of Unity has been placed in the Pillar, there are markings in the sand all the way around the Pillar. These symbols match each Orb you've placed in the Pillars around the Biomes, meaning you'll need to place the correct Pillar on its matching mark. First, make sure to move any foliage or decor that you may be in the way so that you can see each marking fully.

Now you'll need to gather up all your pillars and move them to the Island. Since you can't store the Pillars, you'll need to just open your Furniture menu and drag each one there from its current position. Thankfully, you don't have to venture off to each biome or wherever you have them. You can zoom out and grab them from the Furniture menu and still remain on the Island physically. You can start by collecting them all before worrying about placing them in the right spots. You should have seven Pillars, not counting the one already on the Island.

Once you have them all on the Island, you can place them in the right spots. Take a look at the symbol on the Orb in the middle of each Pillar and match them to the symbol on the ground. Starting from the left side of the Pillar of Unity, facing the Skull Rock, and moving clockwise, this is the order you should have:

  • Pillar of Courage (Pink)
  • Pillar of Remembrance (Purple)
  • Pillar of Love (Yellow)
  • Pillar of Power (Blue)
  • Pillar of Nurturing (Green-Blue)
  • Pillar of Friendship (Orange)
  • Pillar of Trust (Green)

When you're finished placing all of them in these spots, back out of the Furniture menu, and you should see the Skull Rock cave rumbling. Next, you'll have to speak to Merlin again. Unfortunately, Merlin doesn't have the answers yet to what lies within the mysterious cave. We'll have to wait for further news for him, which could take up to a few weeks or more. Stay tuned to see where this questline might lead us in the future!
