Dark Castle quest guide Disney Dreamlight Valley

Time to put a stop to The Forgetting once and for all!

The Dark Castle is the last quest in The Remembering series, where you'll finally face The Forgotten and unveil all the mysteries and secrets of The Forgetting. You'll first need to ensure you have completed the Forgotten Relics quest from Merlin and collect all four relics from your fellow Villagers: Scar, Mickey, Elsa, and Moana. You'll need to make you have Scar's Level 10 Friendship quest done, as well as Moana's and Elsa's. Once you have those done, you can hop right on this quest. Here's how to work through it as efficiently and quickly as possible!

To begin the Dark Castle quest, you'll want to speak to Merlin after completing the Forgotten Relics quest. He will have you follow him to the Plaza, right in front of the walkway to the Castle. After speaking with him again, he will open a portal for you to enter the Dark Castle. Once inside, you'll need to navigate through three doors, each with its own puzzle required to open them.

The first door will not allow you to walk through until you resemble the Forgotten. You'll need to dress up in the proper disguise to do this. There are two ways you can go about this. The first way is to follow the Night Thorns and remove them to the left and right of the door and locate the wardrobes which hold the Cardboard Wings and Crown. Or, you can dress up in the Onyx Crown and Thorny Wings or Raven Wings through your Wardrobe menu. Either way, you'll have wings and crown that look like The Forgotten's, and the door will allow you to enter.

Continue through the Dark Castle to the second door, where you'll find a Cooking Station nearby. Here you'll also find a note that will give you a clue on what to make using the ingredients they provide. Using the message, you must make the proper combination to prepare a meal for the door. The Forgotten doesn't like food that makes their breath smell; they like well-seasoned, they like extra crunch, and they only like food grown in the Dark Castle. Here's how to make it:

To make the Night Thorn Sprout Salad, use the following ingredients provided on the ingredients table:

  • Dark Castle Lettuce x1
  • Dreamlight Salt x1
  • Thorn Sprout x1

Once it's made, return to the door and transfer the salad to it, and you can now enter through it.

How to unlock Door Three in the Dark Castle in Disney Dreamlight Valley

The third door is the trickiest because there is very little clue to go on. It will appear to be a dead-end wall, but there is a note on the wall to read. This note will give you a clue that you'll need a "mechanical eye" to reveal the door. While this may lead you to search the room, you won't need to do that. You have what you need right on you: your camera. Capture a picture of the wall where the door should be, and it will magically appear, allowing you to walk through. Once through the third door, you still have one more puzzle to complete to unlock the fourth and final door.

How to unlock Door Four in the Dark Castle in Disney Dreamlight Valley

This puzzle has a well with four little nooks where items appear to be missing. You'll need to collect four torches from around the well, from the ground, and by breaking through the ice with your Royal Pickaxe. Once you have them, you'll notice in your Inventory that they all have different names: Dawn Torch, Noon Torch, Dusk Torch, and Night Torch. You'll need to place them around the well in the correct order. Here's how:

Each slot on the well has a picture below it. Two moons and two suns. Based on the pictures, you'll need to place them in the proper spots. It's safe to assume the full sun is Noon, so that must mean the sun hidden partially behind the clouds is Dawn. You can also focus on the colors of them as well. So you can place them in a counter-clockwise position and fill the well:

  • Rising Sun (Pink): Dawn
  • Full Sun (Yellow): Noon
  • Rising Crescent Moon (Purple): Dusk
  • Moon and Stars (Blue): Night

When the well is filled, you can use your Royal Fishing Pole to fish the key from the fishing spot. Then interact with the locked door and transfer the key to open it.

Once you do this, you'll enter the room with The Forgotten. They will attempt to battle you, but instead, you both teleport to a Memory Realm of sorts. Here you can interact with each memory, using your magic to reveal the special moments of your lives that The Forgotten needs to remember to let go of their resentment and fear. Once you fully convince them, you work together to close the Rift they have created and successfully save the Valley.

Even though this is the end of the first story of the Valley, there is still so much to do with your fellow Villagers, completing their Friendship quests and earning all their special rewards. Plus, it isn't the end of your Dreamlight Valley adventure; from the little teaser shown at the end, it looks like there will be more locations to visit, so stay tuned for more content!
