How to get a Ghost Shark in Dredge – Location guide

Wouldn't say boo to a ghost shark!?

There are over 120 types of fish to catch in Dredge, with some harder to pin down than others. The Ghost Shark is one of these, and its Encyclopedia entry doesn't help in finding it, either, with its listed location being completely wrong. Here's how to get a Ghost Shark in Dredge.

The Ghost Shark's Encyclopedia page lists the mystery fish as being found in the Devil's Spine, but it's actually not located there at all. In fact, it's all the way to the south, in the ocean between the Stellar Basin and Gale Cliffs. And even then, you can only find it in one specific spot.

To catch a Ghost Shark, head to map coordinate I-4 at any time of day and look for a spot that requires Abyssal fishing in the southeast of the map square. There are Oceanic and Coastal ripples around there too, so if you can't find it straight away, keep searching.

Once you've found the spot, cast out your Abyssal Rod and complete the timing minigame to haul up a Ghost Shark. If you're lucky, you might catch the Aberrant version of the fish, the Rapt Shark, which sells for upwards of $120 apiece depending on length and freshness.

How to unlock Abyssal fishing in Dredge

Because the Ghost Shark requires Abyssal fishing to catch, you'll need to have unlocked that fishing technique first before you can haul the eerie fish in.

To unlock Abyssal fishing in Dredge, you must have completed the Collect All Samples Pursuit, which is requested of you by the Research Assistant at the Old Fortress in the Stellar Basin. The NPC asks you to bring her an Aurora Jellyfish, a Firefly Squid, and a Glowing Octopus. For more detailed instructions on where to find them, click over to our Dredge Research Assistant Samples: Where to get Aurora Jellyfish, Glowing Octopus & Firefly Squid in Dredge guide.

With all three fish caught, return to the Research Assistant. She will ask you to go to her Research Outpost and pick up the Prototype Parts that she left behind when fleeing an attacking sea monster. Sail southeast and go into the building here. Click on Inspect the equipment on the table to grab the Prototype Parts.

Sail back and give the Research Assistant her Prototype Parts to unlock Abyssal fishing.
