To be able to catch a Loosejaw in Dredge, you need to have unlocked Abyssal fishing, which allows you to haul up fish that are lurking in the deepest depths of the ocean.

Once you have the ability, sail over to the Stellar Basin in the southwest section of the map. Head north of the Old Fortress and check every set of bubbles until you find an Abyssal fishing spot that's glowing red.

You'll know you've found a Loosejaw spot when the shadow looks like a big fish with a hinged jaw. It has a very unique shape, so there will be no mistaking it.

And if you're lucky, you may get the Abberation: a Perished Loosejaw. Abberations are mutated versions of fish that sell for more, so if you're saving for a particular boat upgrade, you may want to farm these, which the Sign of Ruin can help with.

How to unlock Abyssal fishing in Dredge

To unlock Abyssal fishing, you need to have completed the Collect All Samples Pursuit, given to you by the Research Assistant at the Old Fortress in the Stellar Basin. She asks you to catch three types of fish: a Glowing Octopus, an Aurora Jellyfish, and a Firefly Squid. Head over to our Dredge Research Assistant Samples: Where to get Aurora Jellyfish, Glowing Octopus & Firefly Squid in Dredge guide for a full walkthrough.

Once you've caught all three of the requested fish, go back to the Research Assistant, who will ask you to go to the Research Outpost and find the Prototype Parts. Sail slightly southeast of the Old Fortress to find it. Enter the building here and inspect the equipment on the table to pick up the Prototype Parts.

Return to the Research Assistant and give her the Prototype Parts. In exchange, she will craft and gift you the Sampling Device, which unlocks Abyssal fishing.
