Shadow of the Erdtree is Elden Ring's expansive DLC and secrets are hiding behind every corner. Today we are looking at the Darklight Catacombs and how to get through the dungeon without falling, dying, or getting lost in our helpful walkthrough.
Darklight Catacombs Location in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree (Map)
You'll find the Darklight Catacombs entrance to the southeast of the Recluses' River Downstream Sight of Grace. If you have not found that POI you can access it from the Shadow Keep directly North of the map. You'll have to do a lot of parkour, but with some luck and our map coordinates, you'll find the entrance in no time.
Darklight Catacombs Walkthrough in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree
Move forward to find a dark room with a hallway to your right and some shiny loot directly in front. If you've spent any time in Elden Ring up to this point you know that dungeons house countless ambushes so be careful of the Imp statue on your left (shown in image #2) as you grab the Grave Glovewart 5 (image #4). Move on by taking the nearby hallway which leads you to a large balcony with a tunnel to your left—you can see our first objective if you spend a moment on the balcony: a nearby lever (image #5).
Continue forward (image #6) until you reach a room with two statue imps waiting to send you back to the nearest Site of Grace (image #7 above). You'll immediately aggro the first one so we recommend backing up and baiting it into a 1v1 situation before you tackle the second. When you dispatch both enemies you'll find a short staircase that leads to a tunnel on your right (image #8); be warned that the Big Mouth enemy here spews explosive fireballs with surprising speed. Also, note that directly behind you and directly underneath the staircase is a room that leads to the lever we saw on the balcony (shown in image #9).
First, take down the Big Mouth Imp and then return to activate the lever and bring some much-needed light (image #11) to the dreary walls. Now that there's a bit more light you can return to the straight and narrow path down the hallway where you'll find a ladder.
At the bottom of the ladder, there is an Imp Statue to your right (image #1); quickly dispatch the enemy and move to the second ladder. Before you jump into the fray note the Imp Statue on the wall to the right waiting for you to drop down. However there is also a sorcerer to the left that will pelt you with glintstone magic in the meantime (image #2 above). I recommend jumping down and heading for the sorcerer then returning for the Imp Statue. In the center of the room you'll also find a Grave Glovewort 1 (image #3) as spoils of war. Continue forward and you'll come across an elevator (image #4) that will lead to the next section of the dungeon.
As you step off the elevator and enter the dark room you will notice a lever out of arms reach (image #1), an enemy waiting for a fight, and a room to your left with some tasty loot. Head left first (shown in image #2), but be mindful of the Imp Statue preparing to ambush you. This time you'll be rewarded with a Ghost Glovewort 2 (image #3) for your troubles.
After you've explored that small room to your heart's content, head back to the main area and take the only path forward where the Imp Statue waits. Kill the Imp and you'll come across three pathways (image #4). The first takes you down to your left and should be ignored for now; the second and third lead in the same direction, so pick one and head in. Behind one of the giant columns you'll find a ladder (shown in image #5) that will lead to the lever we spotted earlier. Climb the ladder and turn left then follow the path until you find the mechanism (image #6) to turn the lights on. Now you can take the first path that will lead you to the third elevator of the dungeon (image #8).
Giant Big Mouth Imp Boss Guide - Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree
Your first introduction to the giant Big Mouth statue should be met with terror (image #1). This abomination will one-shot you and will continue to rain hellfire down on you, but before we can deal with the monster we have to take care of some adds. Once you have steeled yourself for the coming battle, sprint towards the giant creature and head slightly off to the left. You'll notice that Big Mouth is unable to be reached currently, so do your best to ignore it and focus on the two Imp Statues guarding its base (image #2). Dispatch the creatures then turn around and run back to where you came. Here you'll notice a hidden room (shown in image #3) with another Imp creature and some loot. Kill the Imp and claim the Ghost Glovewort 8 (image #4) for your troubles.
Re-enter the arena with Big Mouth and follow the path to the left (image #5) where a room sits with a single lever inside. Crank the lever (shown in image #6) and the entire dungeon will light up and mark the last lever we have to pull. Leave the room to notice the Big Mouth Imp is now in boxing distance, so grab your biggest sword and slay the monster (image #7). He is a very simple kill now that you can get under his legs and essentially perma-stagger him. You'll receive the Great Ghost Glovewort (image #8) for your endgame summons.
Now that Big Mouth is dead you may notice a chest and a hidden room (image #9 above) become accessible with a short jump. Dive off the edge and land safely on the other side and know that you are completely safe from enemies in this section; loot the chest to receive the Big Mouth Imp summoning ashes (image #10). I have yet to try this summon myself but I bet these will be a very fun toy to play with. To get out of this room just turn around and climb the nearby ladder (image #11) then follow the hallway to a short dropdown where you can descend the final flight of stairs to the last elevator (image #12).
At the bottom of the final elevator, you'll find the familiar golden fog (image #13) that indicates an upcoming boss battle.
How to defeat Jori, Elder Inquisitor in Shadow of the Erdtree
Jori the Elder Inquisitor is a little annoying but can be defeated without too much trouble. My strategy relied on my army of Greatshield Soldier +10 summons to keep the boss's attention away from me so I could fight unhindered. I utilize Rallana's Twin Moon blades in this fight and take advantage of the high stagger damage from its special ability (a giant fire tornado).
Throughout the fight, Jori whips out a few different tricks to keep you on your toes—random teleportation tricks, summoning other monsters to clog up the battlefield, and a host of holy spells to rip through your healthbar. Jori's teleportation seems to happen after they withstand a large amount of damage; be warned that when Jori teleports they send out a holy shockwave that hurts anything in melee range. At points in the fight the boss will spawn numerous enemies to bog you down, but hitting Jori will cancel the summons after a brief delay. So ensure you're always chasing after the boss and keeping up the pressure.
With these notes in mind you shouldn't have too much trouble with Jori and you'll take them down in a few tries at most. If you are still struggling try searching out some Scadutree Fragments to increase your damage mitigation to absurd levels.
