What are the White Footsteps near the Coastal Cave in Elden Ring?

Timing is everything.

The world of Elden Ring is massive, with many features and mysteries that you can easily miss. One such puzzle is that of the glowing white footsteps that circle a portion of the beach near the Coastal Cave. To find them, head northwest along the beach, avoiding or killing any enemies along the way.

There's a simple answer to this mystery: it's an invisible enemy that you can defeat with one hit. Fortunately, the phantom enemy is not a threat to you whatsoever, but finding the timing to complete this task is another thing entirely.

You'll find that the footsteps only circle a small area—position yourself in their path and strike when it's a step or two away. It's okay if you miss, as the invisible enemy won't change trajectory. Stay still, and try again until you get it. Once you defeat the enemy, you'll automatically acquire a new Ashes of War ability called Stamp (Sweep).

Hey there! I'm Nick. I've been a gamer since I was a tiny lad sitting about three feet from my SNES playing Mega Man X and Zelda (A Link to the Past). I dip my toes into most genres but always find my way back to open-world RPGs and story-driven single-player titles. I love to write and consider myself lucky to spend my days working on content I truly enjoy.
