The Birdseye Telescope is one of many useful items found across the world of Elden Ring. But, what do these actually do? Here's what we know about what the Birdseye Telescopes do in the game.
What are Birdseye Telescopes in Elden Ring?
Birdseye Telescopes allow users to view the surrounding area in Elden Ring. Lore-wise, these were mainly used by the Carian Royal Family, who were a major faction before the events of the game. After the age of the Erdtree had begun, they were restrained from using these by the Golden Order. A smaller version of it with only the telescope component is available for purchase from Merchant Kale at the Church of Elleh in Limgrave.
The Birdseye Telescopes are displayed on the Elden Ring map once players find that locale's Map Fragment. Look for the icon highlighted below to get a lay of the land while exploring the Lands Between.
Once you've found a Birdseye Telescope, press Triangle on PlayStation controllers /Y on Xbox controllers/ E on PC to activate the item. Use the D-Pad or mouse to adjust the scope while utilizing this item to bring the surrounding area into focus. Make sure the area is clear of enemies before using the Birdseye Telescope, as the game will not pause while you're viewing the surrounding area.
Are Birdseye Telescopes useful in Elden Ring?
As they are used in checking out the surrounding area, these are definitely more leaned towards newcomers who don't know their way around the map. After a while, when they know all the secret routes and shortcuts these telescopes become less useful over time. So, if you're a newcomer in Elden Ring, you should make use of these when starting out to better understand the terrain and all the enemies and bosses within it.
