Where to get Throwing Weapons early (Map Location) in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

Over 100 new weapons are included in Elden Ring's hit new expansion Shadow of the Erdtree. A lot of these fall under a whole new weapon category called Throwing Blades. This guide will show you how to find a reliable throwing weapon early on in the DLC.

Throwing Blades are a part of your arsenal that can be equipped and thrown as projectiles, magically reappearing in your hand after each throw. This means that they are not one-time consumables like throwing knives or kukris. They are generally located on corpses and in chests across the Land of Shadow.

Where to find Smithscript Dagger in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree

The best throwing weapon that you can find early on in Shadow of the Erdtree is the Smithscript Dagger, so you should focus on finding that first, along with other strong early-game weapons such as the Backhand Blade.

To find the Smithscript Dagger, first head south of the Castle Front Site of Grace towards the cliff crevasse. But make sure you don't go directly into the crevasse, instead aiming for its right side. You'll soon arrive at a cave entrance that leads to the Ruined Forge Lava Intake dungeon, which is located underground.

You shouldn't be surprised to learn that this dungeon is full of all kinds of environmental dangers and peril around every corner, so be sure to play it safe here. The dagger itself can be found on a corpse lying along the main path which goes through the dungeon, just after a large room with a ladder that you'll need to climb down.

Once you climb down, you'll find yourself on a large platform overlooking a pool of lava. There's a corpse located in the far corner of the platform just next to one of the dungeon's rock giant enemies. You can defeat this enemy by attacking the gem on its back. When that's been done, loot the corpse to receive your Smithscript Dagger.

The Smithscript Dagger is much like any other Dagger or throwing consumable in Elden Ring. Its light attack shoots out a dagger flying out in a straight line; its heavy attack has you charge up a more powerful throw. Finally, its Piercing Throw skill sends the dagger flying outwards in an overhead toss. Below are the dagger's base stats for those who are interested:

Where To Get The Smithscript Spear In Elden Ring Shadow Of The Erdtree

The next throwing weapon you should set your sights on in Elden Ring Shadow of the Erdtree is the Smithscript Spear. It is hiding in the Ruined Forge Of Starfall Past dungeon, which is located just south of the Highroad Cross Site of Grace after exiting Castle Ensis. The dungeon entrance is situated along the back side of the largest stone structure sitting in the field populated by demi-humans. The map above gives you a precise location of the entrance.

Once you set foot in the dungeon, head straight through the first room with the Site of Grace in it and continue to the first large room. You'll recognize it thanks to a gap separating the two sides of the room. The spear is conveniently located directly on the other side of the room from where you came in. Follow the bridge in the middle of the room and look to your right. Here you will see a dead body which you should loot in order to find the Smithscript Spear.

Despite this spear's basic attack being that of any regular spear in a video game, what makes it special is that its strong attack is a throw. A new spear will appear in your hand after throwing, and pretty quickly to boot, making the Smithscript Spear a weapon with few disadvantages so long as your enemy isn't charging straight at you while you're mid-throw. You can also throw the spear while riding your trusty steed Torrent – a nifty feature that really compensates for the short range of its basic piercing attacks.

The Smithscript Spear also comes with the Impaling Thrust skill, which is common enough but is highly effective against shielded enemies. Though it is a unique weapon, you might want to infuse the spear with different Ashes of War to change up what skill it has access, as well as its elemental affinity of course.

  • Weapon Type: Spear
  • Damage Type: Standard/Pierce
  • Skill: Impaling Thrust
  • FP Cost: 9
