The Twilight of the Gods!

Final Fantasy XVI features a completely overhauled real-time combat system with some magical, lightning-fast swordplay. Clive is an expert at his trade, having been trained from a young age to be his little brother's bodyguard, and by the time the main story takes place, he must acquire the very best tools in this quest for revenge. Ever since visiting the Blacksmith for the first time, I wondered what the best sword in the game was and when will I be able to get it. Time to find out!

Where to acquire Gotterdammerung in Final Fantasy XVI

To acquire Gotterdammerung in Final Fantasy 16, you must first meet several conditions. Here are all the necessary requirements:

  1. Complete all four Blacksmith Blues Side Quests
  2. Get the following ingredients:
    • Ragnarok
    • x2 Darksteel
    • Primitive Battlehorn
    • x3 Orichalcum

Keep an eye on those particular resources from the list; if you encounter them by chance, be careful not to sell them off. Doing so can cause you to lose the opportunity to craft Gotterdammerung and win the Half Past Twilight game trophy. The Gotterdammerung is the strongest weapon obtainable in the first campaign playthrough, and it's highly recommended that you have it for the late game. It is bested only by the Ultima Weapon, unlocked when you beat the game and play the Final Fantasy mode.

Completing Blacksmith Blues Side Quests to obtain Gotterdammerung recipe in Final Fantasy 16

The first step—which includes completing all four Blacksmith Blues Side Quests in FFXVI—will get you the Ragnarok, a vital component that you will need to craft the Gotterdammerung. The Blacksmith Blues Side Quests themselves are not missable; you can still complete them even after you are finished with the main storyline quests. Just make sure to have all the required resources.

  • Blacksmith Blues Part 1: It becomes available once you complete the Here Be Monsters Main Quest mission. Speak to August to initiate the Side Quest.
  • Blacksmith Blues Part 2: Go back to the Hideaway and read the letter About Blackthorne after completing the Letting Off Steam III Main Quest mission.
  • Blacksmith Blues Part 3: After completing Like Father, Like Daughter, return to Hideaway and speak to August the Blacksmith to start Part 3 of the Side Quest.
  • Blacksmith Blues Part 4: Completing Across the Narrow Main Story quest will unlock the final part of the Blacksmith Blues mission.
