With patch 7.01 of Final Fantasy XIV Dawntrail comes the highly-anticipated first tier of 8-person raids in the Arcadion, and a new gearset with it. Here's where to unlock the first tier of AAC Light-heavyweight fights, which see the Warriors of Light fighting opponents supercharged with the souls of beasts.
Where to unlock Light-heavy gear in FFXIV (Map Location)
The Arcadion’s first tier will provide the highest item level gear that you can receive yet at 710, with the exception of the jewelry and weapons available from the current extreme trials that grant the same. This gear is a great way to prepare for the upcoming Savage tier of the same fights. Savage is a high-difficulty 8-person raid that will release with patch 7.05.
To unlock the Arcadion raid series, and the first round of four fights (known as the AAC Light-heavyweight Tier), start the quest “A New Challenger Appears” with the NPC called Stylish Stranger. This lalafell runs the Arcadion and will be serving as your guide and announcer for the future fights.
As soon as you’ve completed the first quest of the Arcadion story, you can view the gear that you’ll be collecting pieces to obtain. Hhihwi, with the Arcadion Relic Exchange near Nexus Arcade, is where you’ll be exchanging the tokens that you’ve earned in your fights.
Which gear tokens to get for Arcadion gear in FFXIV
Unlike normal dungeons, 8-person raids do not drop full pieces of gear. Instead, they drop a set number of gear tokens. A number of these tokens are then exchanged for the gear itself with Hhihwi. Every week, you can obtain one token in each of the four fights, but you have to roll against everyone else in the raid to earn it. You can repeat the fight as many times as you like, but only gain one token per week, so consider planning out which pieces of gear you’d like to earn that week.
Below is a table of how many tokens are needed for each gear piece. Many players will be aiming for the body piece (or shirt) token in every fight, so if you have your eyes on the glamorous new gear, you may need to redo the fights a few times before you win that drop.
Gear Piece | Gear Token | Number Needed |
---|---|---|
Head | Light-heavy holohelm | 2 |
Body | Light-heavy holoarmor | 4 |
Hands | Light-heavy hologuantlets | 2 |
Legs | Light-heavy holochausses | 4 |
Feet | Light-heavy hologreaves | 2 |
Accessories | Light-heavy holoearring | 1 per piece |
Weapon | Light-heavy holoblade | 7 |
As a further example of how to use this table, if you aren’t interested in farming for all of the body or leg tokens, you can also aim for something less immediately sought after but equally helpful for your item level. Two hologreaves and two holoearrings could get you a total of three new 710 gear pieces. Item level numbers aren’t everything, but if you’re just looking to power up with less of a grind than non-stop tomestone farming or learning an extreme trial, this is your easiest and quickest casual method.
How to use Light-heavy holoblades in FFXIV
When you first complete the final fight of the raid tier, AAC Light-heavyweight M4, you will automatically receive a Light-heavy holoblade token. This does not need to be rolled on, and every player will receive it. For now, there is nothing you can do with this blade, but hold onto it and prepare to get one every single week going forward.
Once you have earned seven Light-heavy holoblades over seven weeks, you can exchange them for a Universal Tomestone. Historically these tomestones have always been used to unlock a high-level weapon for your job. The sooner you get your holoblades, the sooner you can earn your next best weapon of the game.
