How to get and use Facewear in FFXIV Dawntrail

Glasses make the look!

The Dawntrail expansion in Final Fantasy XIV has changed the dynamics of the glamour game with features such as Facewear, which finally lets players sport their favorite spectacles while also wearing headpieces. If you're wondering how it works, here's our handy guider for how to get and use Facewear in FFXIV Dawntrail.

The Facewear feature effectively revamps a portion of what were once Fashion Accessories in Final Fantasy XIV and turns them into a special type of glamour for you to customize as you wish. However, in order to actually use this feature, you'll need to complete a couple of steps first.

How to unlock Facewear in FFXIV Dawntrail

Go to the Gold Saucer and speak to the Prize Claim Attendant standing next to the Cactpot Broker in Entrance Square, and you'll notice that several new Facewear options have been added for various amounts of MGP. However, chances are that you've already obtained some or all of these as Fashion Accessories, and the game will instead notify you to exchange them for Facewear by speaking with a Calamity Salvager in Limsa Lominsa, Gridania, or Ul'dah.

Upon interacting with a Calamity Salvager, you should see 'Spectacles Exchange' at the bottom. Select that, followed by 'Exchange Spectacles (convert to facewear)', and you should then receive all your previous spectacle Fashion Accessories as Facewear, effectively unlocking the feature for you.

Any you don't have, you can now go back to the Gold Saucer and purchase the ones you want for MGP. Remember that if it has a gold checkmark next to it, you already have it. They currently include:

  • The Faces We Wear - Thick-Rimmed Glasses: 30,000 MGP
  • The Faces We Wear - Contemporary Pince-nez: 40,000 MGP
  • The Faces We Wear - Rimless Glasses: 70,000 MGP
  • The Faces We Wear - Minstrel's Spectacles: 90,000 MGP
  • The Faces We Wear - Oval Spectacles: 100,000 MGP

Once you have the Facewear feature unlocked and some options to work with, you can now start affixing them to your favorite outfits. Before you hit the Teleport button, note that you don't need to go to your local Inn and dig into your Glamour dresser to do this.

How to use Facewear in FFXIV Dawntrail

Go to your dashboard and select 'Character' under the 'Character' tab to pull up your Character Menu. At the bottom left side of your equipped gearset is a slot with a glasses symbol (as seen above). Select this and the Facewear menu will pop up, allowing you to select a new spectacled look. Even better, each pair has 12 colors to choose from, giving you further customization flexibility.

It's worth noting that if and when you switch jobs, you will need to re-equip your desired Facewear to that new job. Likewise, when you go back to the job you switched from, you will need to do it then again as well. A bit finicky, but a neat feature nonetheless that can provide some sophisticated accents to your character's outfit and hairstyle.
