Fortnite Chapter 3 Season 1 event: How long will Fortnite be down?

Expect a longer wait.

As per usual for the end of a Fortnite season, we can expect to see downtime for the end of Chapter 2 Season 8 on Dec. 4, 2021. However, this time we should expect a lot more downtime since Epic Games is not changing over to a new season, but to an entirely new Chapter! Similar to the change from Chapter 1 to Chapter 2, we can expect the downtime this time to be several days.

Chapter 2 is scheduled to end on Dec. 4 at 3pm CT, but Chapter 3 isn't scheduled to start until Dec. 7. This means that Fortnite will be down for about two and a half to three days. The reason for the sharp increase in downtime is likely because of the amount of content to be added or changed, and to make sure that everything runs as smoothly as possible.

Those of us who were there for the change to Fortnite Chapter 2 will probably remember the complete reboot to the island. It was an entirely new map with new locations, new points of interest, new weapons, new characters, etc. Whatever happens, we can fully expect the update to be big enough to make it feel like we're installing an entirely new game!
