Backpacks are a new item type that has been recently added to Fortnite. It seems these will be a permanent addition to the game, so there are going to be many different options available to us in the future. We got our first look at this new item type via the Jetpack!

Backpack Basics

Here's a basic run down of backpacks in Fortnite. These are a unique item type, they take up an inventory slot, you can only carry one backpack at a time, and once it is fully consumed it will be automatically destroyed! Check out the official breakdown from Epic:

  • Backpacks take an inventory slot (like weapons & consumables) and can be moved to different positions.
  • Only one Backpack can be carried at a time.
    • If you pick up a different Backpack, it will be automatically swapped with the one currently equipped.
  • When a Backpack is fully consumed, it will be automatically destroyed.
  • While a Backpack is equipped, your Back Bling cosmetics will be hidden.
    • Back Bling will be reapplied when the Backpack is no longer equipped.

Also, keep in mind that backpacks are different than back bling. This might be confusing, but back bling are cosmetic items that come with various skins or can be earned through your battle pass. Backpacks are in-game items that can be actively used and consumed.

Fortnite Backpacks Item List

Here is where you will find a current list of all the known backpacks. Some of these will be actively in the game, some might have been removed, and some haven't been added at all and were leaked via datamining.

Jetpack (Currently In-Game)

The jetpack was our introduction to backpacks. It allows you to gain height and hover until your fuel runs out. This is great for getting above structures or building up towards your enemies without worrying about them knocking down your structure. This backpack is ideal for more aggressive players that want to push forward, or players who might want to be able to make quick escapes without worrying about taking fall damage from high areas.

Leaked Datamined Backpacks

These backpacks were discovered via datamining the most recent patch of Fortnite. If you want to be surprised when these come out, then don't read further! Some of these come from the Twitter account TwoEpicBuddies!

Boost Jump

This is very likely the Jetpack, so probably nothing special here.

Eye of the Storm Tracker

This was accidentally added to the game in the jetpack content patch. What this backpack does is show you on your map where the NEXT circle is going to be placed. This is pretty valuable if you are trying to win the game, plus you could just grab it real quick, check where the next safe zone is going to be then drop it. This will be particularly good in the late game, you will have a better idea of where you should fort up if that is your play style!

Carmine Pack

This was apparently the codename for Thanos in the game. I'm not sure this will end up being anything, but who knows!

Glider Pack

I wouldn't be surprised if this gave you the ability to jump off a tall area and if you were to hit the jump button again your glider will pop out. Would be good for high towers or if you are falling from a great distance. Gives you some options if you don't have a launch pad.

Intel Pack

This one could be very interesting! You might be able to get intel based on your enemy location in your immediate area, or somehow pick a spot on the map to find enemies. The sky is the limit for whatever "intel" might entail.

Medic Pack

Very likely that this would heal you slowly if you have taken any health damage. Probably like a slurp potion but just for health.

Missile Battery

This one is tough to guess, but it could be a reintroduction of the guided missile. It could also be something like ammunition for your rocket or grenade launcher that has a finite amount.
