The launch pad is a relatively new item that has been added to Fortnite Battle Royale in the V.1.9 Patch! It can be a bit tricky to use at first because it's not super intuitive, but once you get it down you'll be flying down on your enemies in no time! This launch pad guide will teach you the basics, how to use it, and demonstrate some tactics that will help get the most out of the item.
Fortnite Launch Pad Basics
- Once it is deployed it has unlimited uses and can be triggered by any player.
- It cannot be picked up, so once it's down it's stuck where it is.
- It can be destroyed like any trap.
- Once you jump on it you are launched into the air and you can redeploy your glider.
How-to Use the Launch Pad
Now that all sounds simple, but there's a few key things you need to know. The Launch Pad is a purple item and it goes into your Trap slot. If you already have another trap equipped you will need to open your inventory and equip it so you can use it. You cannot just put it on the ground, you will need to create a a floor of any material which will allow you to place the pad.
Launch Pad Tactics
One of the first things that you will realize is that you don't get a ton of height from the launch pad, so it's best place on a high cliff or on a ramp you've constructed yourself if you want to glide for a long distance.
Using the launch pad into enemies that see you is rarely a good idea, however, if your opponent is unaware of where you are it can allow you to jump into their base or behind them for an easy/silent kill. Once you've deployed your glider you are silent which makes it hard for your enemy to locate you if they haven't seen you.
You can always double back if you are seen immediately and land back near the pad.
If you have to make a quick move to avoid enemy fire try finding a tree to land in. This will provide you some quick cover and allow you to return fire or make another move.
Here's a good example of using the launch pad to aggressively get behind your opponent and shotgun them down:
