Fortnite implements new age restrictions for player skins and Creative Maps

Apparently, age isn't just a number...

There are so many unique Fortnite skins that players have collected over the years and even spent well-earned V-Bucks, exchanged from real money most of the time, to get.

With the new updates rolled out on November 16, 2023, players will now have certain skins restricted from them when playing in Creative Maps with lower age ratings. Here are all the details below...

Fortnite Creative Maps and skins age restrictions

With Fortnite putting Creative Maps at the front and center, this allowed players to get creative and make truly unique creations for friends and other online players to join in on. While this was a great way to expand the capabilities and creativity of the experience, it apparently comes with some repercussions as well.

Creative Maps will now have age ratings, only allowing players who meet the requirements to join. However, not only will it affect players of younger ages, restricting them from joining maps over their age limit, but it will also affect everyone who wants to join Creative Maps because they will be limited on what character skins they can use.

Alongside Creative Map age ratings come character skin restrictions. This means some skins can only be worn in certain Creative Maps based on their rating. Scarier, or more mature skins deemed by Epic Games, can only be worn in maps 13+ or 'Teen' rated maps. Maps rated 'Everyone' will not allow these restricted skins to be shown and will automatically show them as default skins when joining.

This is a huge frustration for players, and rightly so when they've spent so many V-Bucks to buy the skins that they like. Although it seems to be a feature meant to protect the younger audience of the experience, it definitely affects all players in a somewhat negative way. We'll see just how long Epic Games plans to keep this in place and if it will be a permanent change or not.
