Fortnite New World Challenges Guide – Cheat Sheet, Loading Screen

Our Fortnite New World Mission Guide walks you through the list of challenges you'll need to complete to earn the rewards for this mission. Epic has simplified things in Chapter 2: Season 1. There's no longer battle stars, you can only earn experience which will level up your battle pass and get your closer to tier 100! It appears that Missions will no longer expire like they did in the previous season, so you won't have to rush to complete these.

New World Challenges List

Completing each challenge will get you 14,000 XP points towards your battle pass. You start off with the first three of these challenges unlocked, and you will unlock more challenges by completing each of those. If you complete 8 of these challenges you will unlock the Loading Screen for the Mission!

  • Discover Named Locations (10)
  • Eliminations at Lazy Lake or Misty Meadows (3)
  • Discover Landmarks (10)
  • Ride a Motorboat in different matches (3)
  • Deal damage with Assault Rifles to opponents (500)
  • Search chests at Sweaty Sands or Retail Row (7)
  • Eliminations in different matches (5)
  • Catch a weapon using a Fishing Rod (1)
  • Deal damage with SMGs, Shotguns, and Pistols in a single match (3)

There's a hidden location listed on the loading screen you earn, so check out this guide for more information!

New World Cheat Sheet

Here's a cheat sheet look at where to complete the challenges! More detailed explanations can be found below. Credit to SquatingDog for the image.

New World Mission Guide

The challenges are fairly easily to complete, and you can always do them in Team Rumble if you feel like they might be difficult. You can also use Party Assist with any of these challenges which should help you complete the difficult ones.

Discover Named Locations (10)

You will notice right away when you first jump into the game that the map is covered with ??? markers. These denote new named locations (POIs) that you'll need to explore. You just need to go to the ??? area and it will unlock the location permanently on your map. There's 10 locations in all, so you'll need to visit all of the hidden areas. There are other spots on the map that are dark and are not named, but they do not count towards this challenge.

Eliminations at Lazy Lake or Misty Meadows (3)

It's too early really to know which of these is the better spot, so just go to whichever one is closer. Players are hot dropping quite a bit, so if you want some easy kills just try to land as quickly as possible and grab a weapon.

Discover Landmarks (10)

Landmarks are different than Named Locations, they are the other grey areas you'll notice on the map that don't have ??? on them. These are unique spots that have a bit of flavor to them, here's a list of the ones we know of:

  • Lockie's Lighthouse
  • Crash Site
  • Unremarkable Shack
  • Risky Reels
  • E.G.O. Science Station
  • Hilltop House
  • Homely Hills
  • Coral Cove
  • Fort Crumpet
  • Weather Station
  • Shipwreck Cove
  • Base Camp Hotel
  • Pizza Pete's Food Truck

Here's a map of where the majority are located, it might not be all:

If you want some exact locations, then here's a video with a bunch of them:

Ride a Motorboat in different matches (3)

Motorboats are the new vehicle addition to the game, and are as far as I know the only current vehicle in the game. You'll find them near all of the water based area, just hop in one and you'll get credit towards the challenge.

Deal damage with Assault Rifles to opponents (500)

This is an easy one, probably best to do it in Team Rumble if you want it done quickly!

Search chests at Sweaty Sands or Retail Row (7)

Either spot is fine for this, I always like doing these in Team Rumble since the chests have a way higher spawn rate.

Eliminations in different matches (5)

Another really simple challenge, just get eliminations when you play the game! You'll need to get at least one in five different matches.

Catch a weapon using a Fishing Rod (1)

Fishing is one of the interesting new mechanics added to the game in Chapter 2: Season 1! You'll find fishing rods in chests or just in areas that make sense for a fishing rod to spawn! You'll want to look for glowing like areas in the water, they are pretty obvious when you see one. You'll also see fish jumping around in the the spot. Press and hold your use key while you have the fishing rod out and target the area you want to cast your line. Once the bobber drops beneath the water, click to reel it in and get your catch.

You will usually catch either a fish, which can heal you, or you will catch a weapon. If you catch a weapon, the fishing spot will be consumed and you'll have to find another one. You only need to this once to complete the challenge!

Deal damage with SMGs, Shotguns, and Pistols in a single match (3)

Pretty easy one, just vary up your weaponry and deal some damage. Do this in Team Rumble if you struggle.

Carry a Knocked player 10m (10)

You'll need to jump into a duo or squad to complete this one. There's a new mechanic now that allows you to pick up a knocked player. I say "player" specifically, because you can pick up a teammate OR an enemy that has been knocked. This can lead to some fun situations where you grab an enemy who got knocked and hurl them off the edge of a cliff! To complete this challenge, you'll need to grab a player and walk with them for 10m!

New World Mission Loading Screen

Once you complete eight of the challenges you will be rewarded with the New World loading screen! Each of these loading screens has a hidden letter in them which you will be able to go collect. You'll gain 14,000 XP for doing it, and you will make progress towards collecting the mystery skin for Chapter 2: Season 1!

You'll find the hidden "F" east of Lazy Lake!

Here's video of how-to find the spot:
