Fortnite Open Water Challenges Guide – Cheat Sheet, Loading Screen

Our Open Water Challenges Guide walks you through the list of challenges you'll need to complete to earn the rewards for this mission. Epic has simplified things in Chapter 2: Season 1. There's no longer battle stars, you can only earn experience which will level up your battle pass and get your closer to tier 100! It appears that Missions will no longer expire like they did in the previous season, so you won't have to rush to complete these.

Open Water Challenges List

Completing each challenge will get you 14,000 XP points towards your battle pass. You start off with the first three of these challenges unlocked, and you will unlock more challenges by completing each of those. If you complete 8 of these challenges you will unlock the Loading Screen for the Mission!

• Land at Craggy Cliffs, Salty Springs, and Dirty Docks (1)
• Hide inside Hideouts in different matches (3)
• Search Chests at Craggy Cliffs or Misty Meadows (7)
• Eliminate opponents with a Sniper Rifle (2)
• Be crouched within 20m of an opponent for a total of 10 seconds (10)
• Deal damage with Pistols to opponents (500)
• Search Ammo Boxes in a single match (7)
• Get an elimination from 50m or further (1)
• Survive Storm phases (10)
• Deal damage within 10 seconds of leaving a Hideout (150)

Open Water Mission Guide

The challenges are fairly easily to complete, and you can always do them in Team Rumble if you feel like they might be difficult. You can also use Party Assist with any of these challenges which should help you complete the difficult ones.

Land at Craggy Cliffs, Salty Springs, and Dirty Docks (1)

This is an easy one, and it gives you a chance to check out a couple of the new locations that have been added to the game!

Hide inside Hideouts in different matches (3)

Hideouts are a new addition to Fortnite that allow you to jump into a haystacks and dumpsters to hide. Once you find an unsuspecting victim, you can jump out and start firing at them! There's a bit of a delay between you jumping out of the hiding spot and getting access to your weapon, so be sure to take that into account. For this challenge, you just need to jump in one of these in three different matches. They can be found all over the map, so just look for a prompt on a bush, haystack, or dumpster to hide in it.

Search Chests at Craggy Cliffs or Misty Meadows (7)

Should be an easy one, head to whichever location is closest or is your favorite! I like to do these in Team Rumble because the chest spawn rate is much higher.

Eliminate opponents with a Sniper Rifle (2)

The Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle is back, so that's a great option for this challenge. Again, this will be much easier in Team Rumble!

Be crouched within 20m of an opponent for a total of 10 seconds (10)

I believe the spirit of this challenge is that you'll be sitting crouched in a Hideout, which will make things quite tense if there's someone nearby. However, you can likely just complete this challenge if you are box fighting with someone and you crouch while they are trying to attack you! I believe this doesn't have to be 10 seconds in a row, so you can space it out a bit to complete the challenge.

Deal damage with Pistols to opponents (500)

Pistols aren't the most reliable or popular weapon in Fortnite, but there's some decent options right now. Team Rumble is your friend for this one.

Search Ammo Boxes in a single match (7)

Head into Team Rumble and land at a spot where no one else is going! You should be able to run around and find seven Ammo Boxes pretty quickly.

Get an elimination from 50m or further (1)

You might be able to combine this with the previous Sniper Rifle challenge. You could also probably just do this with an Assault Rifle!

Survive Storm phases (10)

So, it's probably easier to do this in Solo, Duo, or Squad if you just hang out and stay hidden. However, you can kind of passively finish this one in Team Rumble if that's more of your speed.

Deal damage within 10 seconds of leaving a Hideout (150)

This should be a fun one! Jump in one of those Hideouts and wait for someone to happen by. Jump out and deal some damage!

Open Water Mission Loading Screen

Once you've completed eight challenges in the Open Water Challenges Mission, you will receive the Open Water loading screen! This shows off the new fishing mechanic, as well as the Outcast and Turk vs Riptide skins.

You'll find the letter O on the northern part of the map up at Craggy Cliffs. There's a huge building there with some scaffolding and a deck area. Right under this platform will be the letter you are looking to find!

Make sure you look under the decking where all of the scaffolding is! It will be tucked away under there.
