Fortnite is known for doing collaborations with numerous major franchises in the mainstream media space. The game added the Master Chief skin from the Halo franchise way back in Chapter 2 Season 5. Here's how to get the exclusive Matte Black version of the skin.
How to unlock the Matte Black Master Chief in Fortnite
Initially, players could only get the exclusive skin if they owned the base Master Chief skin and an Xbox Series X or Series S console. However, anyone with the original Master Chief skin can now access the Matte Black version via the Xbox Cloud Gaming service for free.
You can now play Fortnite on iOS, iPadOS, Android, and Windows devices via Xbox Cloud Gaming without any membership or installation. Follow the steps below to unlock Matte Black Master Chief:
- On any of the aforementioned devices, head over to the Xbox Cloud Gaming website.
- On the main screen, you'll see a Fortnite tab. Press Play for Free and sign-in to your Microsoft account.
- Click Play and let the game load up. If you see any prompts on the screen, simply press Continue Anyway to proceed.
- Once the game has launched, you'll get a notification confirming that you have unlocked the Matte Black Master Chief skin.

The base version of the Master Chief skin can be unlocked from the Fortnite store. You can either buy the entire collection for 2,600 V-Bucks or purchase the skin separately for 1,500 V-Bucks. The Master Chief Bundle includes the Master Chief skin, UNSC Pelican glider, Gravity Hammer pickaxe, and Lil' Warthog emote.
