How to beat Getting Over It

A guide to getting over it!

Getting Over It has gone down in history as one of the most annoyingly difficult games to beat. I never thought that getting a person with a lower portion of their torso in a cauldron wielding a hammer to climb to the top of the world would be easy, but when I first tried the game, I experienced a next level of frustration. Many players wonder how to beat this tough game without smashing their mice. This guide will lend you a helping hand!

How to finish Getting Over It fast

To successfully finish Getting Over It, you first must master the movement and the in-game climbing mechanics. You can make extremely precise maneuvers with your hammer, latching yourself to various objects. After latching on, you can pull yourself towards and then onto an object by moving the mouse toward your body.

To jump over objects, follow the steps below:

  1. Position the hammer below the bottom of your cauldron.
  2. Position your push off the surface to quickly latch your hammer onto the surface above you.
  3. Pull down with your mouse.
  4. While you're in the air, do either a full or a half swing, moving your mouse clockwise.

This method generates speed to get over any object in the game, allowing you to navigate the terrain. It takes quite a while to master it, but it's manageable if you put enough time into it. A helpful tip that made my life easier was concentrating on the end of the hammer, marked with a white dot. That's the contact point, marking your mouse cursor. I found that if I concentrated on the player model's weird hand motions, it confused me, so I forced myself to change the perspective, and it paid off.

If you've beaten it after reading this guide, congratulations! According to Steam statistics, less than 1% of the player base who bought the game managed to finish it, so it's quite an achievement.

How to complete the Devil's Chimney in Getting Over It

The Devil's Chimney is the first real obstacle in Getting Over It. It is a tunnel-like section where players must climb up what seems to be an impossible chimney-like tunnel. It comes relatively early in the game, and most problems stem from the fact that players still aren't used to controls by the time they encounter this course. To conquer it, follow the steps below:

  1. Climb up as far as you can on the rock at the very bottom of the Chimney. Position your cauldron on the top of it.
  2.  Use your hammer to reach out for the lip on the rock to the left. You want to grab the lip and slowly heave yourself up gently.
  3.  When your head almost touches the lamp, quickly snap your hammer to the right and latch onto the lamp.
  4.  Heave yourself up, dragging your cauldron on the surface to the left. Move your mouse down and to the left slowly to push yourself up.
  5.  Extend your hammer as far as possible so your head touches the second lamp on the left side of the wall.
  6.  Snap your hammer to the left to push yourself with your cauldron onto the first lamp. If you do this properly, you will not fall down.
  7.  Extend your hammer to the second light and latch onto it. Pull yourself on top of the left rock with the tree on it, exiting the Devil's Chimney.

How to complete the Devil's Orange in Getting Over It

The Devil's Orange is a very complicated, high-stakes set of obstacles requiring careful and slow progress. If you make a mistake, you will drop down all the way to the game's starting point. To complete the course, follow the steps below:

  1. Set your cauldron on the red table.
  2.  Quickly push off and latch onto the first rock. The trick here is not to over-commit. Push yourself with only half the strength, just enough to reach the surface above.
  3. Climb the next set of rocks using the push-off and a clockwise set of moves, but don't rush it. Patience is the key in this section.
  4. The fourth rock is extremely slippery, so don't trust your cauldron to stay there when you land. You will almost certainly slip off.
  5. When you reach the stone wall of the church, you must reach for the stone head of the lion.
    •  When you reach the church's stone wall, you must reach for the stone head of the lion. You cannot make this jump from the stone wall because the angle is too steep. Push yourself up from the rocks below it using full strength and reach for the head with your hammer.
    • Try to latch onto the lion's head, placing your hammer behind its ear! Since the head is sloping down, this is the only way to securely hold it.
  6. Once you heave yourself over the lion's head, you must reach for the hand sticking out of the building.
    • Again, try latching your hammer behind the thumb to secure your grip.
  7. Place your cauldron on top of the thumb and push yourself off, reaching the roof.
  8. Use a small extrusion to heave yourself up and over the very top of the bell tower.
    • If you find yourself stuck on the spike at the top, place your hammer directly on the spike, using it to launch yourself over it.
