How to ascend the dam in God of War Ragnarök

Get things flowing again.

Vanaheim's Crater region in God of War Ragnarök is expansive, and it's full of quests for you to take on to gather some great loot for yourself. One of the Favors you can undertake is Return of the River, in which you'll travel to the Jungle to ascend and open a dam that Odin built. It completely dried the river that ran through the area. Here's how to climb up to the dam and complete the Favor.

To start this quest, you'll need to head toward the western edge of the Jungle Area of Vanaheim. Refer to the map above for the dam's location. Once you've triggered the quest, the path up to the dam is fairly straightforward, with only a few Wulvers in your way. You'll reach a point with red vines blocking your path, use a sigil arrow and the R1 + L2 combo of your Blades of Chaos to ignite and remove the vines. You'll then be able to use the lift that the vines were blocking.

Once you've reached the upper level, you'll have a few enemies to tear through and some hacksilver chests to loot. Once that's done, look for the Druapnir Spear point hidden behind the barrels pictured above. You'll need to lodge a spear into the yellow cracks, press Triangle to trigger an explosion and proceed through a hole in the wall.

You'll need to fight on the other side of the wall again. We highly recommend taking out the Nokken hiding in an alcove of the dam first, then taking on the rest of your opponents. Once all of the enemies are out of your way, you'll be able to use your sigil arrows and the Blades of Chaos to remove all of the red vines from this side of the dam wall, then use the wooden wheel to open it and get the river flowing again. Before you continue, don't forget to grab one half of the Mead Stein for the Casualty of War: The Stein Favor.

Before you leave the dam, you might want to deal with the Dreki you spotted while opening the dam. You'll need to use your Draupnir Spear on the wall directly behind you when lifting the dam gates. Refer to the picture above for the angle we used to loge the spear. Press Circle to use the spear and jump across to the now-drained area. In a few paces, you'll knock down a gold chain. You can use it to drop below to a boss fight with two Dreki. It's similar to the Boss fight found at the end of your quest through Freya's Wedding Shrine. Defeating the Dreki will complete this favor, and now the river will be full again for you to explore further in Vanaheim's Jungle.
