After numerous rumors of closure and some scaling back, Google Stadia is officially ending and shutting down on January 18, 2023. This was a hard decision for Google, but a blog post details the shutdown largely due to Stadia's reception. In addition, the post details that Google would be giving refunds for Stadia. This may leave you wondering how to get a refund for purchases through Google Stadia.
How Google Stadia refunds work
All Google Stadia refunds will be handled through the Google Store, so you will need to look here and not at another source. Any hardware, game, or DLC for Stadia will be refunded, regardless of the purchase date, as long as it was purchased through the Google Store. Most refunds for Stadia will be completed by mid-January 2023.
Games and DLC are clear examples of something being refunded, but the hardware becomes a little more involved. You can refund any Stadia controllers, Founder Editions, Premiere Editions, and Google TV Packages purchases made through the Google Store. Google has stated that most hardware does not need to be returned, but more information about this will be forthcoming on the support page.
As the announcement is fairly recent and the shutdown date at the start of 2023, some details still need to be figured out. Google will provide more information through the support page, so bookmark it and check back here for more news.
