The next-gen console upgrade announcement for Green Hell.

Green Hell nails down XSX|S, PS5 release date, will be free upgrade

Survive or don't. Those are your only options, really.

Survival game buffs will surely know about the 2019 release Green Hell, which currently has over 50,000 reviews on Steam. Developer Creepy Jar never left its game to rot, continuing to provide free updates throughout the years for fans to enjoy. Most recently came free update number 20, Anteaters, which added giant anteaters into the game alongside other items, mechanics, and more.

Well, it seems that Creepy Jar has a surprise for fans of Green Hell: the long-awaited current-gen console launch of the game. It will be available on Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PlayStation 5 as of August 14, 2024.

If you own the last-gen version of the game, you aren't being left behind. This new update will be a free upgrade for all owners of the last-gen version of the game, and it will include previously unreleased content that has only been available for the PC version of the game up until this point.

For those who enjoy survival games, Green Hell really is one of the best. It's a realistic experience where you can build your own shelter, find food and cook it, and find materials to keep surviving in the jungle. In my opinion, this is one of the most genuine survival experience games available. There are no auto-healing or health potions; if you get hurt, you're creating your own bandages out of leaves and hoping the wound doesn't kill you.

You can also invite friends on your journey! Imagine fishing together while hoping that a crocodile isn't around the corner...

The new current-gen console version of Green Hell will be available for $24.99 USD at launch on August 14, with a spicy 20% discount for the first 14 days. Console players who haven't been able to enjoy the more recent additions to the game will have access to update 17 (Storage & Transportation), update 18 (Fortifications), and update 19 (Flamekeeper).

To summarize those updates, you can expect to see a whole host of new features and items — including storage baskets, increased storage capacity, lookout platforms, fences and gates, and, of course, the Eternal Flame Totem (used for the Ritual of Flame, which summons hoards of Waraha so that you can get yourself some extra loot and a unique weapon). These are just a select few of the features that were added in those three updates; there are plenty more that you'll be able to experience on your XSX|S or PS5 with the console upgrade.

To get the free upgrade, you need to have previously purchased either the Xbox One or PlayStation 4 version of the game.

Creepy Jar has also made it clear that last-generation consoles will no longer receive updates for Green Hell as they focus on current-gen consoles and beyond. Last-gen consoles can't keep up with the demands of the updates, so anyone playing Green Hell with older consoles should not expect to receive any additional content for their game.

Because of the lack of compatibility between current and last-gen console versions of the game, neither the Xbox Series X|S or PlayStation 5 versions will be compatible with their previous generation counterparts. There will be no crossplay between versions and no save transfer option from last-gen consoles to current ones.

The opportunity to get the upgrade for free if you had the last-gen console version is an unbelievably kind gesture from the developers. If that means starting over again, at least players will finally have access to new content.
