GTA Online Christmas Festive Surprise 2021: Start Date, Free Event Rewards, and More!

We've been good Santa, we swear! (Not)

It's that time of year again when you get to play GTA Online with some festive cheer in your hearts! Does that mean you will better behave before Father Christmas comes? Definitely not. However, you still get some goodies anyway!

Much like previous years in GTA Online, the Holiday Season brings about event rewards and Christmas-themed antics, so here are the details for the Festive Surprise 2021.

When does it start?

The official start time has yet to be revealed. However, since 2014 the surprise drop has had a particular window.

The update usually happens in the third week of December, so it could be the 18th, 19th, or 20th. It can drop right before Christmas starts, which would leave the latest date for the update to drop to the 23rd.

The Festive Surprise always finishes in the first week of January, so the event cannot be too far away as it needs time to be wrapped up properly by players.

The goodies and the rewards

At this time, we can only speculate what will appear in this year's festive event. One thing that has been consistent through previous years is the types of rewards players receive. Here is a list of known event rewards:

  • Daily log-in rewards and discounts
  • Free t-shirts
  • Free cars
  • Free weapons

The discounts offered last for the duration of the Festive Surprise, so players will see the opportunity to get extras at reduced prices until the event ends in the first week of January.

These rewards are great for both committed and casual players alike, so you will slay (sleigh) a bit more if you grind in-game! However, players who like to pop in occasionally will also get some treats, as it is the season!

Will there be snow, Papa?

Snow is a staple and constant of the Festive Surprise event, so we are confident it will return again this year. For those who have not experienced snowy Los Santos before, beware that the roads will become more slippery and make driving more dangerous.

On the plus side, you can have snowball fights! So, we think that makes it all good. There will also be festive decorations on buildings around the city and Christmas trees, wooden reindeers, and snowmen. You'll feel all warm and fuzzy inside whilst you play.

We will keep you updated on the exact launch of the Festive Surprise once we know more.
